Neighborhood Garage Sale Saturday, April 30th
Don't WAIT, register your address for the 2016 Greens Annual Garage sale. Last year there were 30-35 sales in the neighborhood! Register your address by sending an email to [email protected]
We will put up signs at every entrance to the Greens the Sunday before the sale. The signs state that the neighborhood sale will be Saturday from 8-5. You are welcome to have your sale on other days and the more personal signs you use to direct customers the better your sales will be. The ad in the Oklahoman will run Friday and Saturday but only
advertise for Saturday. We will also advertise on Facebook Garage Sale sites and Craigslist. If I have your return address I will send a list and a map of the neighborhood out the Thursday prior to the sale. Please make copies to give to shoppers, especially if you have a home near an entrance.
Oklahoma City requires a permit. You can have the permit by registering your sale on your water bill. You can do this online even the day of the sale. However, if you register it early, some shoppers get the list of rregistered permits to know where to shop.
Suggestions for pricing. Garage sales are ways to clear out and make a little cash. Clothing sells for 25 cents to five dollars. Typically, 10-20% of its original value. So, a $50 Golf shirt in good/great condition might sell for $5, but more likely $1-$2. The more items you have, the more people will stop to look. If you don't have a lot of items, consider joining with another sale nearby. If you only have a few large furniture items just put them out with a sign to knock if they are interested.
Start now taking 10-30 minutes several times a week to purge a drawer, closet, or box you never unpacked when you moved. Stack your items in a guest room or garage until you are ready to mark prices. Many times Dollar Tree has price stickers and blank stickers. Or, you might consider a sign that states your prices, "All Dresses $5, All Jeans $3,
All Children's Clothing $1." You will sell more if you have good prices. Be ready to deal with shoppers, they want the best bang for their buck. You can also offer less for more such as "All Clothing $3 or 5 items for $10." Books, kitchen items, and handyman items are also great sellers. My daughter even sells tomato plants she grows from seed!! You can use the email address to ask for help or advice. I am a frequent sale shopper and can offer suggestions.
I have been asked why we don't do a two day sale. The reason is as a neighborhood sale, frequent shoppers know most items are picked over the second day and don't bother stopping. So, we only have a one day sale. Again, you are welcome to have your sale Friday and or Sunday. Best of LUCK! Kacy Harsha, Garage Sale Committee
