Behavioral health services are a lifeline for children and teens navigating the foster care system's complexities. These young people often carry emotional scars from past traumas and face uncertain futures. These services provide therapy, guidance, and a safe space for healing, helping them cope with their emotions, build resilience, and regain control. By addressing their mental health needs, we empower them to overcome trauma and develop the skills for a brighter future.

This October, we celebrate the rich heritage, resilience, and contributions of Filipino Americans across the nation. From community leadership to service, education, and the arts — Filipino Americans continue to make a lasting impact that inspires us all.

At Choices For Life, we honor the diversity that strengthens our communities and the stories that remind us of the power of connection, compassion, and care. 💚

LGBTQ+ History Month is a good moment to say plainly: our outpatient counseling services are built to support every child and adolescent who comes through our doors, including LGBTQ+ youth navigating identity alongside everything else going on in their lives. 💚

For a young person already managing a placement transition, family stress, or trauma history, having one more thing they feel they can't talk about openly makes everything harder. Our team is trained to provide care that doesn't require a kid to hide part of who they are in order to get support.

Kids who've experienced a lack of control in other parts of their lives often need to feel some agency in how a bullying situation gets handled, even a small amount. That doesn't mean stepping back from the adult role, it means bringing them into the plan rather than announcing one to them.

Then loop in the school, and loop in us if it's affecting them beyond the situation itself.

World Mental Health Day isn't just a day for adults to reflect on their own mental health. It's a reminder that kids have mental health too, and it deserves the same seriousness we give physical health.

For children who've experienced trauma or instability, mental health support isn't a luxury add-on. It's foundational to everything else — school performance, relationships, ability to trust the adults around them. Our outpatient counseling team works with children and adolescents on exactly this. If today's the day you finally make that call, we're ready. 💚 - 405-751-0800

By October, the fall routine has mostly settled, which makes this a good window to check in on things that got glossed over in September's adjustment period. Any lingering sleep issues, unresolved school concerns, or a kid who's "fine" but a little more guarded than usual.

This is also a good time to revisit supports that were put in place earlier in the year and see if they still fit. What worked in August doesn't always still work in October, especially as daylight shortens and energy shifts. 💚

October is Bullying Prevention Month, and for kids already navigating a placement transition or a mental health challenge, bullying doesn't happen in isolation. It compounds whatever else is already hard.

A few things worth knowing: kids who've experienced instability sometimes read peer conflict as confirmation of things they already believe about themselves. That makes early, calm intervention more important than it might seem from the outside. If a child in your care mentions something that sounds minor, it's worth asking a follow-up question rather than assuming it's nothing. 💚

You already know the drill. You ask, “How was your day?” Your teen answers, “Fine.” You ask a follow-up. You get “I don’t know.” And just like that, the conversation is over before it started.

Here’s the thing: it’s not that your teen doesn’t want to talk to you. “How was your day?” is just a hard question to answer. Learn more and get advice on our blog - https://www.choicesforlifecfc.com/blog/2026/07/15/5-things-to-say-instead-of-how-was-your-day-that-actually-get-an-answer/
