ROMPF MAKES DONATION IN HIS BELOVED DOG'S NAME

Bill Rompf made a substantial donation to the Bill Rompf Junior Tennis Foundation this week in the name of his "best friend", Coco, who had to be put to sleep this past week. Rompf was not really ever a dog lover, but somehow that drastically changed when he inherited both MaryAnn's dog, Coco, as she went off to college and then, Boomer, Mary's dog, after their divorce. Both the dogs are Yorkies. Over the last 12 years (Coco was 16 and Boomer is 10), they have been his "closest and best friends" and constant traveling companions on his many road trips throughout the United States and Canada, visiting family and friends and forever exploring America. He believes they have been to at least 40 of the 50 states. Bill said their favorite part of each day on the road was "eating at fast food joints and staying in hotels." He believes that making Coco a part of his foundation is her way of staying in his heart and their continuing to give back by helping kids in tennis reach their goals and dreams.

TAYTUM JONES ACHIEVES ANOTHER LIFE MILESTONE - A FEATURE IN USTA OKLAHOMA BASELINER NEWSLETTER

Just off Taytum Jones being awarded the High Performance Junior Player of the Year Award by USTA Tennis Oklahoma, he will now be featured in USTA Oklahoma BASELINER magazine for Black History Month.

In his interview Taytum expressed the following:

2023 was an incredible year for me. I set a goal to be ranked in the top 100 in the nation in Boy’s 14’s and I went from 550 to 99 competing in my first two national events. My next goal is to play D1 tennis and one day win the US Open in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Ashe has always been a hero and inspiration for me. To be given the distinction and celebrated in BASELINER for Black History month makes my achievements even more meaningful and special. I am proud of where I come from, my culture, my people and to be a young black male. Black history IS American History. Black History is yesterday, today, and most assuredly tomorrow. I am honored to be a part of that rich history. My favorite tennis player is Arthur Ashe who said “We must reach out our hand in friendship and dignity both to those who would befriend us and those who would be our enemy.”

Taytum, we are honored to have you as part of the Bill Rompf Junior Tennis Foundation’s work and so proud of who you are and all you’ve achieved.

As Bill would say, “You’ve just started. Do not think to be satisfied. Too many goals are out there for you yet to be achieved. Keep up the good work.”

USTA OKLAHOMA SELECTS TAYTUM JONES AS THE HIGH PERFORMANCE JUNIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR 2023

The Bill Rompf Junior Tennis Foundation's first scholarship recipient, Taytum Jones, has been selected as the Male High Performance Junior Player of the Year by USTA Oklahoma. He was honored and presented with this award along with the current Oklahoma Hall of Fame 2023 inductees, at the USTA Oklahoma's Awards Banquet on February 3rd at Gaillardia Country Club.

Taytum's Cinderella story began in December of 2022 when he was chosen as the first BRJTF scholarship player. At that time he was ranked 520th nationally, 20th in the Missouri Valley and 8th in the state of Oklahoma. After receiving the distinguished invite and scholarship to the USTA Training Camp in Florida, Taytum secured himself a wild card into the Boy's 14u Clay Court Nationals Tournament where he earned his way into the Boys 14u Hard Court National Tournament (both located in Alabama). Between both national tournaments, Taytum beat several seeded players and won eight matches. His goal of being nationally ranked inside the top 100 boys 14’s came to fruition as he completed the year as 99th in USTA, 4th in Missouri Valley, and 3rd in the state of Oklahoma.

After a 3 month halt due to injury at the end of 2023 and aging up into the Boy's 16's, Taytum played his first event post injury at an L5 USTA tournament in Overland Park, Kansas. Here he beat the third and fifth seeded players while coming up just short in a super tiebreaker in the finals. Taytum’s boys 16’s national ranking is 584th, 24th in the Missouri Valley and 11th in the state of Oklahoma. His world tennis number is now a 20.84. His UTR is a 9.26 in singles and a 9.06 in doubles. If his 2024 performance is anything like 2023, he is expected to quickly climb up in the rankings his first year in the 16‘s age division. As Taytum’s mother says, "This young man just doesn't stop! I am so proud to be his mom! And if it were not for you (BRJTF), your generosity and your heart for kiddos in this sport… Taytum wouldn't be where he is. It's been such a magical year!"

And we too are so proud to be helping Taytum reach his tennis dreams and will continue to do so in 2024.
