The Yale Vaccine:
AKA: EGFR/HER2 Vaccine
Background: Professor Mark Mamula and his research team at Yale University School created the vaccine, which currently has 11 clinical trial locations across the U.S.
What is it? The Yale Vaccine, also known as EGFR/HER2 Vaccine is an immunotherapy treatment. There’s a lot of helpful information in this article:

In short, the injection of the vaccine boosts the dog’s immune system. The vaccine specifically inhibits tumor growth by training the immune cells to target bad cells or EGFR/HER2 cells which are commonly associated with aggressive tumor growth.
What does treatment consist of?
As of right now, we have been told treatment is TWO vaccines given three weeks apart. Additional diagnostics are required prior to the vaccines being given as well: blood panel, urinalysis and triple view radiographs of the chest. Duke is scheduled for these diagnostics early next week and gets his first vaccine at the end of next week.
What types of cancer may benefit from the vaccine?
* Osteosarcoma
* Hemangiosarcoma
* Transitional Cell Carcinoma
* Soft Tissue Sarcoma
* A**l Sac Carcinoma
* Mammary Carcinoma
* Pituitary Adenoma
* Glioma
* Lung Cancer
* Epithelial Nasal Carcinoma.
* Nasopharyngeal cancer
Keep in mind, clinical trials are only accepting certain types of qualifying cancers and candidates.
What is the end result? It varies, of course. Many dogs have experienced delays in cancer growth with owners reporting significantly longer lives than initially expected. In some cases, dogs with osteosarcoma have even experienced a reversal of pulmonary metastasis (seriously a miracle!).

Eventually we would LOVE to have a program specifically dedicated to animals battling cancer. This will likely be far into the future as it will require significant funding and resources, but it is something we are seriously considering.
NOAH’S mission is to save critical care, neonatal, and at risk animals so they can be adopted out to their forever homes. We strive to give these animals the best life possible and provide them hospice or sanctuary when they are difficult to adopt out.
