Please join us in congratulating Mary Woody, Southeast Section, Appalachian Aviatrixes Chapter, on her graduation from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide with a Master of Science in Aviation and Aerospace Sustainability, With Distinction for earning a 4.000 cumulative GPA! Mary was a 2025 Amelia Earhart Scholarship recipient.

Mary’s academic accomplishments extended beyond the classroom. During her graduate studies, an article she co-authored was accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Aviation Research, a tremendous achievement and reflection of her dedication to aviation research and sustainability.

Mary has also continued her outstanding service to The Ninety-Nines throughout her graduate program. In addition to serving as Co-Chair of the Appalachian Aviatrixes Chapter, she serves The Ninety-Nines at the Section level as Southeast Section Membership Chair and Social Media/Webmaster Chair. Through these roles, she has worked to strengthen our organization, support members, improve communication, and promote opportunities for women in aviation.

Mary shared her appreciation for the organization that has supported her throughout this journey:

“The Ninety-Nines has been an important part of this journey from beginning to end. Your encouragement, friendship, and belief in me gave me the support to pursue this degree and the means to see it through. I am deeply grateful to be part of an organization that not only inspires women to fly, but stands beside them as they pursue what comes next.”

We are incredibly proud of Mary and all she has accomplished. Her academic excellence, leadership, service, and commitment to a more sustainable future for aviation exemplify the very best of The Ninety-Nines.

Congratulations, Mary! We can't wait to see where this next chapter takes you!

If You Have Flown
There are no words that can express
The magic of that wilderness
That wilderness way up high
Where banks of clouds float softly by
And hide the problems on earth below
But then you know—
If you have flown.
If you have flown, then you know . . .
The beauty of the world below—
The meadow green, the waters saffire [sic] blue
You’ve felt that it belonged alone to you
And as your ship obeyed your slightest will
You’ve felt a thrill—
If you have flown.
To those who sail the sky above
Comes peace of mind and understanding love
There is no bitterness in the sky
As gently earth and clouds drift by
All is beautiful, serene,
You know exactly what I mean—
IF YOU HAVE FLOWN. See less

2026 AE winner Julia Polasik of the Eastern Idaho 99s, Northwest Ninety-Nines finished her valuable Mountain and Canyon Flying course that will assist her to be a safer pilot in the back country.

On finishing the training, Julia commented:
"I went from being scared to make an emergency canyon turn on day 1 to being comfortable flying through the canyons and mountains in Idaho’s backcountry at low AGLs by the end of the course. That includes making stabilized approaches into backcountry airstrips in nonstandard patterns, and even getting unexpected tailwheel time in a Super Cub when my Cherokee didn’t have quite enough power to pull off the backcountry airstrip takeoffs. I couldn't be more grateful to have been given this once in a lifetime opportunity!"

Congratulations, Julia, for expanding your skill set and becoming a safer pilot!

Thank you for your support and encouragement along the way. I’m excited for the next chapter of this aviation journey!"
