We are also an affiliate of , the official GivingTuesday movement in Liberia. Many of us know very little about Liberia and Liberians. For instance, Liberia was the only African country colonized by the United States. Liberia is also the first independent nation in Africa; a founding member of the United Nations; advocated for the end of Apartheid in South Africa; helped the U
SA during WWII with refueling land space; and accepted freed slaves from the West who wanted to return to Africa. In fact, twelve out of Liberia’s first 24 presidents were Americans. In 2006, Liberia elected Africa’s first female President—an example of an open-minded and acceptable society. However this country has several challenges. Imagine paying for an education not because of its quality but because it’s the only way to acquire an education. Some of us are living in a country with less than 10% unemployment rate. Imagine a country with 80% unemployment rate. Imagine having no money yet attempting to get you or your sick child treatment in a country where only patients with upfront payments are seen. Can you imagine that? Imagine the difficulty of these circumstances in a country overcoming 14yrs of civil war. Those are the circumstances in countries like Liberia. YesLiberia, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, has decided to offset some of those challenges. From Stopping the Reuse of Condoms to scholarships for poor Liberian students; from Personal Hygiene to Health Workshops in Liberia; from Learning Center in Liberia to fighting corruption in Liberia; from Senior Citizens Birthday Celebration to Kids Photo Stories in Liberia, YesLiberia has become the primary Liberian nonprofit organization for volunteers and interns from all over the world. If you’re looking for a fun organization with opportunities for making a difference from your own home, try YesLiberia, Inc. No matter what your condition is, wherever you are today, we hope life has been kind to you. We hope the struggles of people in Liberia could only be imagined and not remembered. We’re NOT asking you to fix Liberia. We’re inviting you to join us in making things better by changing the lives of children in Liberia through your acts of kindness. It's true that we cannot help everyone, but each of us can help someone! Join our team of people just like you and complete our volunteer form at: http://www.yesliberia.org.
