Whiz Kids OK

Nothing compares to the excitement of your first day of Whiz Kids! 🤩

All across the metro, kids are walking into Whiz Kids for the first time or returning after summer break. Kids and tutors settle in with a snack and stack of books and literacy activities. The sounds of high fives and greetings soon fade into the rhythmic hum of reading. 📚

Learn how you can help make moments like this happen for even more students at whizkidsok.org.

We are thrilled to introduce Maggie Murdock Nichols, who is officially joining Whiz Kids as our new Communications & Development Coordinator!

Maggie comes to us with a rich background in community relations and nonprofit work, following ten years of freelance and project leadership. Giving voice to compelling stories, raising funds for critical causes, and fostering a deep love for literacy have always been at the heart of her career.

She also brings a personal connection to our mission: her daughters, Corrie and Merritt, attend an elementary school that Whiz Kids recently began serving. When she’s not working, Maggie, her husband David, and their daughters love riding bikes and reading together (ask her about her favorite children’s book, Roxaboxen!).

It’s National Nonprofit Day! 🎉

Today, we’re celebrating our incredible Whiz Kids family—our volunteers, partners, site coordinators, and supporters who show up every week to empower young readers across Oklahoma City.

When you invest your time or resources in a child, you change two lives: theirs and yours. 💛

Want to be part of the story this school year? Drop a comment or visit www.whizkidsok.org to learn how you can become a mentor!

As a new school year kicks off, we’re gearing up for an incredible Whiz Kids year as well—and we need YOU on our team!

We’re recruiting volunteers for ALL roles, with a huge need for mentors across all our sites. If you can read, encourage, and bring a smile, you can make a lifelong impact on a student’s life!

⏰ Time Commitment: Just ~2.5 hours, 1 day a week during the school year (when school's out, we're out!)
📍 Locations: Sites all across the OKC metro!

Ready to make a difference this year? Drop us a message right here or head over to www.whizkidsok.org to learn more about our site locations and to get signed up!

🌲✨ CAMP MEMORIES TO LAST A LIFETIME! ✨🌲
This past weekend, some of our Council Grove Elementary Whiz Kids headed for the great outdoors! They attended camp at CrossTimbers with our wonderful partners at Council Road Baptist Church. 🙌❤️
From learning more about Jesus and diving into scripture, to exploring nature and making lifelong new friends, it was a weekend packed with growth, laughter, and adventure.
We are so grateful for these opportunities to watch our kids thrive inside and outside the program!

We are forever grateful to Steve Zabel and his family for their foundational work in starting our Whiz Kids program 30 years ago. His vision and leadership have led to thousands of students in our community receiving life-changing literacy tutoring and faith-based mentoring over the years.
