Hello quilty friends!

The next meeting of the Oklahoma City Modern Quilt Guild is coming up on Monday, June 8, at 6:30 p.m.

Join us at the OSU Extension Office, 2500 NE 63rd St., Oklahoma City, for a fascinating program: How to Make a Digital Memory.

Our presenter, Jared Mayoral, is a former Active Duty Marine, video storyteller, and heritage preservation advocate. Jared will share ways we can capture the stories, skills, inspiration, and love behind our quilts through video.

Imagine gifting a quilt along with a digital memory that tells future generations about the maker, the process, and the meaning behind the stitches. Jared's mission is to help preserve our quilting legacy and create lasting connections between quilts and those who cherish them.

Bring your curiosity and your ideas—we're looking forward to learning how technology can help our quilting stories live on for generations!

Guests are always welcome! Your first meeting is free. If you'd like to continue attending meetings and enjoying all the benefits of our guild, membership is required after your initial visit.

We'd love to see you there!

Guild friends

Just a little heads-up about a nearby show we think you’ll enjoy! Our neighbors, the Norman Area Quilters Guild, are hosting their Coming Up Roses Quilt Show and it looks like a beautiful one.

April 24–25📍 Calvary Church in Norman

If you’re up for a short road trip, it’s always fun to support fellow quilters, gather fresh inspiration, and see what others have been creating. You never know what ideas you’ll bring home with you!

Let us know if you go—we’d love to hear your favorites!

Ready to "piece" together some fun?

Join us for a night of pure creativity—no sewing required! We’re dumping thousands of orphan blocks on the table. It’s "sew" much potential, and we can’t wait to see what you "quilt" up!

When: Monday, April 13th @ 6:30 p.m.
Where: OSU Extension Office (2500 NE 63rd St, OKC)

The Vibe: We’ll be working in small groups to find inspiration and encourage modern design. It’s basically quilter’s heaven—no "strings" attached!

What to bring:

Your own orphan blocks to use or share (the more the merrier!).

A portable design board (if you have one!).

Tip: Bring some pre-made flying geese or checkerboard strips to help tie your design together. It’ll make your masterpiece look "seam-less."

First time joining us? Your FIRST meeting to get to know the group is FREE! If you decide to stay and play for the rest of the season, dues are just $50 for the year and include membership in the National Modern Quilt Guild!

See you soon!

We’re excited to welcome guest speaker Patti Coppock Bucklin, who will be teaching a class to some of our members the day before the meeting. With any luck, we’ll get to see a few of their brand-new creations fresh from the sewing machine!

Guests are always welcome — your first meeting is free. After that, we’d love for you to officially join the guild. Membership dues are $50 per calendar year.

Our members will also be sharing their March Challenge: Notan art blocks, so you’ll get to see some beautiful (and sometimes surprising!) light-and-dark design magic.

And don’t worry if you’re “just looking.” Quilters are very friendly… especially when there’s someone new to admire their Show and Share creations!

🚨 Breaking News from Those of Us NOT at QuiltCon 🚨

To our dear OKCMQG members living their best lives at QuiltCon in Raleigh…

We just want you to know:

We are NOT jealous.
We are NOT refreshing social media every 12 minutes.
We are NOT zooming in on every quilt photo like fabric detectives.

Absolutely not. 😅

Meanwhile, we’ll just be over here… bravely cutting our fabric slightly off-grain, dramatically sighing at our ironing boards, and whispering, “It could’ve been me…”

Please continue to post every class, every quilt, every swag bag, and every delicious meal so we can properly fuel our travel envy from the comfort of home.

Have the BEST time — and bring back inspiration!

Modern quilters absolutely still appreciate classic quilts. While modern designs often embrace bold colors, negative space, and innovative layouts, the craftsmanship, history, and storytelling found in traditional quilts continue to inspire today’s makers. Respect for tradition and love of innovation can beautifully coexist in the quilting community. The quilt shown here was brought in by member Michelle McIntosh, who found it while helping clean out her great-grandmother-in-law’s home — a beautiful example of how cherished classic quilts connect us to family and tradition.

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
On Super Bowl Sunday, quilters sew,
They swear they’re “watching”… kind of so.
The game’s on mute, the iron’s hot,
They miss the score but nail the knot.
Instead of touchdowns, they cheer for snacks,
And straight stitched seams with points that match.
While others yell at refs with rage,
Quilters check their irons' steam gauge.
By final score—who really cares?
They've stitched a quilt with love to share.
