Tomorrow, Wednesday, students (and parents, guardians, and grandparents!) can bring in their handwritten notes to give to staff. We’ve been told that staff members love these the best because they show we really care and appreciate them.

You can use our blank ones or you can make your own.

Today, we honor Mrs. Wood, one of the second grade teachers at Barnes.

From a parent:

I would like to recognize Mrs. Wood on behalf on Finn Bradley. When Finn first stepped foot in her class he was terrified. He wasn’t sure how to feel about school or himself. He had been bullied and spent his whole summer in therapy and we were very worried for him.

On teacher meet and greet night, they met for the first time and we told her about where Finn was mentally and emotionally and she completely understood. She made his mental and physical safety one of her top priorities. Finn went from feeling alone and afraid to brave and excited.
He started to enjoy school again. He was and still is thriving!
She helped him grow and pushed him to be the best version of himself no matter what obstacles were in the way. She helped him to learn more strength within himself and how to process through the difficult moments. She helped him with goals and got him into ACE. Without Mrs. Wood, I’m not sure how things would have turned out for him, but I can say she has truly changed school for Finn in the best ways possible and we are forever greatful for her. She is a true one of a kind teacher we will never forget.

We’re finding some ink issues with the yearbooks. We’ll be contacting Josten’s,the company that printed them, to see what can be done. If you’d like to trade for a good one please bring it to Ms. McNeely. We’ll trade them out now as long as we have them on hand.

Here’s what’s in store for tomorrow, Tuesday.

The weather’s looking good for sidewalk chalk drawing! We’re changing it up this year and drawing on the sidewalks by the playgrounds during recess.

There will be a trail mix bar set up in the teachers lounge for staff.

Thank you, Joey's Pizzeria, for providing breakfast for the staff at Barnes Elementary this morning! It looks absolutely delicious!

Joey’s Pizzeria in Midtown is owned by a Barnes family and their food is so much more than just pizza. The chef is the best! Thank you, Irena, for helping us show how grateful we are for the staff at Barnes!

Each day during Staff Appreciation Week at Barnes we’ll be featuring a staff member and telling a little about what they do at Barnes and why we appreciate them.

Do you have a staff member you’d like to recognize on here? Send us a paragraph and we’ll find a pic to go with it and post it. (Or you can submit your post and we’ll approve it.)

Ms. McNeely, the Instructional Coach, does so much for the students of Barnes outside of her official title. She coordinates and helps with all kinds of behind the scenes work and most families don’t know it. Ask your student! They’ll tell you Ms. McNeely is always cracking jokes to make kids smile and trying to jokingly get them to bring her McDonald’s.

This year, she was a board member with the PTA, and helped tremendously with all kinds of things. She also designed the yearbook and has been selling them. We’re so thankful for Ms. McNeely and we hope you can show her some love this week, too!

Thank you, Ms. McNeely, for taking care of our blue jays!

Does your student have a staff member they love and would be willing to tell us why in a video? Send us a short video of who and why they appreciate them and we’ll post for all to see.
