Good Morning everyone. I hope everyone's morning is starting off well. I wanted to provide an update to what is currently going on in OKC in regard to the Horse Carriages. A few months back I'm sure many of you remember a petition that was making the rounds to end the Horse Carriages in OKC/Bricktown. That petition was started within the group OKRAS (Oklahoma Revolution against Speciesism). We as an organization appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to sign/share the petition and yesterday we got a response after months of consistent calls and emails.

While the response is definitly not what we wanted to hear, it has not discouraged us. We are going to continue to push to put an end to the horse carriages. We were discussing within the group, that we may try to get something on the ballot in order to enact change, but we wanted to provide an update to let you all know that we have not forgotten, and we have not given up and that we are still pushing as hard as we can.

Another successful night in the book for OKRAS!!! We showed up and raised our voices for the horses downtown OKC last night.

We stood strong, we spoke truth, and had some mind opening conversations. We collected a lot more signatures for our petition to ban the horse carriages and will continue to collect until we reach our goal and change is made!

It was hard standing so close to those beautiful horses and watching them struggle to walk because they were so worn out…seeing their faces just inches from the car exhaust pipe in front of them being forced to breathe in the fumes…looking them in the eyes and seeing that they are trapped in a life of exploitation. Activism isn’t always uplifting, a lot of the times it’s unpleasant, uncomfortable and challenging. But changing history and encouraging people to think beyond cultural & traditional norms is more than worth it! Having a conversation with someone and watching their mindset shift is not only rewarding, but it’s the very way by which we change this world.

You want to know where your cheese really comes from? Let’s talk about dairy farming.

Not only are plant milks overwhelmingly more sustainable than cow’s milk, they also avoid the ethical problems that are inherent in the production of dairy products. Cows make milk to feed their children, which means that the standard practice in dairy farming (including organic and “high welfare” farms) is for dairy cows to be forcibly impregnated and to then have their babies taken from them almost immediately after they are born. This separation causes the mother cows psychological and emotional distress. The male babies are then sold into the beef industry and raised for veal or shot. The female babies are placed into solitary confinement pens until they are incorporated into the milking herd. The mother cows are then milked every day and endure the process of being forcibly impregnated and having their babies taken from them over and over again until they are no longer profitable to the dairy farmer. At that point, they will be taken to the sl**ghterhouse, where they get their throats cut. Imagine, for a moment, how the dairy cow feels having her newborn baby taken from her, wondering where the humans are taking them, wondering if she will ever see them again.

Does any of this sound ethical or necessary to you? Are you truly okay with knowing that every time you buy dairy products that you are paying for someone to abuse, exploit and slaughter sentient beings? Are you okay with lying to your children about the cruelty that is involved with how dairy milk, cheese and butter is made?

There are an abundance of plant-based milks, cheeses, butters and other dairy products available today. If you have the choice not to harm animals, why not make that choice? Please end your contribution to these crimes and live vegan.

You may pass them on the highway without a second thought: transport trucks filled with farm animals on their way to the slaughterhouse.

For the animals inside, the trip from factory farm to slaughterhouse is one of the most horrific experiences of their short lives.

In fact, 4 million broiler chickens, 726,000 pigs, and 29,000 cattle die in transport every year in the US alone.

Their deaths are seen as collateral damage in an industry where maximizing profits is more important than providing basic animal welfare.

Please help end Speciesism and go vegan.
Because the only difference between your dog at home and the animals at the slaughterhouse that will become your meal, is their outter appearance.
