Presidents updated as of 2019

This is a partial history of the Oklahoma City Federation of Colored Women’s Club as compiled by Zenia
DeBouse. This information was obtained from Internet and secretarial records and is not intended to be
complete. Scholars say that teaching history h

as many important benefits. Studying history improves our decision making and judgment. It shows us models of good and responsible citizenship, teaches us how to learn from the mistakes of others, help us understand change and societal development. History provides us a context from which to understand ourselves and others. This is why the history of OKCFC is so important. The National Association of Colored Women's Clubs, Inc. (NACWC) was established in July 1896 as a merger between the National League of Colored Women and the National Federation of Afro-American Women. The merger enabled the NACWC to function as a national umbrella group for local and regional Black women’s organizations. The NACWC is a great society of women united for service to raise the standards of the home and extend their service to help make better communities. Mary Church Terrell was the organization's first president. The NACWC adopted the motto - Lifting as We Climb with the intention of showing ignorant and suspicious world that our aims and interests are identical with those of all good aspiring women

The Oklahoma Federation of Negro Women's Clubs was formed in 1910, and the name was officially changed to the Oklahoma Federation of Colored Women's Clubs (OFCWC) in 1924. OKCFC History
We are a group of women who belong to two different clubs in Oklahoma City that have one common goal—To raise the level of women and children to the highest plane in the home, morally, socially, spiritually, economically, and civically.

What’s Happening???

The SAVE America Act has resurfaced in Congress, and despite its name, it threatens to restrict voting access, especially for Black voters, naturalized citizens, women, elders, and students.

Supporters claim it’s about “voter ID” or “election security,” but the truth is clear: This bill is voter suppression disguised as voter protection.

We must act now to protect our communities and our democracy.

If passed, the SAVE America Act would:

Block married women whose ID and voter registration names don’t match
Turn away elders who no longer drive and lack a current ID
Stop college students whose campus address doesn’t match their ID
Require citizenship documents that millions cannot easily access
21.3 million voting‑age Americans lack immediate access
8.4 million people of color face the same barrier
Create longer lines, more confusion, and more voters wrongly turned away
Hits Black and Brown neighborhoods the hardest

This is intentional, not accidental.

Why This Matters - When our vote is weakened, so is our voice on:

Healthcare
Economic opportunity
Fair policing
Education
Community investment
Representation

We should be expanding access to the ballot, not creating new barriers.

CALL TO ACTION
NACWC calls upon

Elected officials and judicial authorities should ensure full transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to constitutional protections for members of the press.

Law enforcement agencies are to cease practices that intimidate or criminalize journalists performing their professional duties.

Our members, affiliates, and community partners are to remain vigilant, informed, and civically engaged, advocating for press freedom, supporting Black journalists, and speaking out against any violation of constitutional rights.

Founded in 1896, NACWC has never been silent in the face of injustice. We stand in solidarity with Black journalists and all truth-tellers who courageously inform the public and strengthen democracy.

To silence the press is to weaken the people.
To threaten Black journalists is to threaten the truth.
NACWC will continue to Evolve HER voice, protect HER story, and defend HER rights.
