Our differences were never meant to divide us… they were meant to strengthen us. 💙

This week, the Heroes in Waiting Teen Board reflected on the importance of understanding, respecting, and celebrating the differences we all bring to the table. Different backgrounds. Different stories. Different struggles. Different gifts. Yet every person still has value, purpose, and the ability to make a positive impact.

Real leadership happens when we choose empathy over judgment, kindness over exclusion, and connection over comparison. The world does not need everyone to be the same, it needs people willing to listen, learn, and stand together despite their differences.

At HIW, we believe our differences are not weaknesses… they are part of what makes each of us uniquely powerful. 💫

Heroes Recognize and Take Action

Bullying often continues because people stay silent.
At Heroes in Waiting, we believe heroes recognize when someone is hurting and take action to make a difference.

A kind word.
Standing beside someone who feels alone.
Speaking up.
Telling a trusted adult.

Those small actions can change and even save lives.

Real heroes don’t scroll past harm.
They step in, stand up, and help create a culture of empathy, courage, and positive peer influence.

Together, we can help stamp out bullying and remind every student that they already have value, purpose, and influence.

Doing the Right Thing isn’t always the easy thing… but it’s always the powerful thing.

As members of the Heroes in Waiting Teen Board, we’ve learned that real leadership shows up in everyday moments:
✔ standing up for someone being picked on
✔ choosing kindness when it’s not popular
✔ walking away from negativity instead of feeding it

It’s not about being perfect. It’s about making the right choice when it counts.

Every time you choose others over comfort, you’re not just doing the right thing…
you’re becoming the hero someone else needs.

Because there is a hero in every kid. 💥

Connections matter. Real friendships matter even more.

Being part of the HIW Teen Board has shown us that when you surround yourself with people who choose kindness, speak life, and stand up for one another, you grow. Not just as students, but as leaders, as friends, and as people.

We’ve learned that friendships aren’t just about who you laugh with… they’re about who has your back, who lifts you up when things get tough, and who challenges you to be better.

Here, we don’t just build friendships, we build a community where everyone belongs.

This week, Heroes in Waiting had an incredible opportunity to visit City Center OKC, sharing our message of anti-bullying and character development with students in the after-school program.

Through engaging conversation and real-life examples, students were challenged to think differently about bullying, what it looks like, how it affects others, and the role they each play in either contributing to the problem or being part of the solution.

The focus was clear: choose empathy, lead with respect, and have the courage to stand up for others.

Program Director Demetrius Bell helped bring the message to life by sharing his personal journey. Growing up in the inner-city of Chicago, he spoke about overcoming challenges and defying the odds, ultimately getting a the chance to travel the globe and building a life rooted in purpose and impact.

His story highlighted the importance of support systems, including family, teachers, and mentors like those at City Center, who help young people recognize their potential and rise above their circumstances.

Moments like these matter. When students can see real examples of resilience and leadership, it reinforces the belief that their choices today can shape their future.

Grateful for the leadership at City Center OKC and their ongoing commitment to investing in the next generation.

Had an incredible time at our last Teen Board gathering for the 2025–2026 school year! 🙌🏽

What a powerful group of young leaders, showing up, speaking up, and truly living out what it means to be a Hero In Waiting. Watching the growth, the courage, and the way you all continue to pour into each other has been nothing short of inspiring.

To our graduating seniors, thank you for setting the tone, leading with heart, and leaving your mark on this program. We are proud of you and excited for what’s ahead. Go be great… the world needs what’s inside of you. 💙

Because there is a Hero in Every Kid. 💫

Exciting Momentum in Southern Oklahoma!

Last Thursday, Jeaneen Pointer and Demetrius Bell, consultants with Heroes in Waiting, had a productive and encouraging meeting with the leadership team at Ardmore City Schools as we continue building meaningful partnerships to support students.

We are excited to share that this fall Ardmore City Schools is preparing to launch a Heroes in Waiting pilot program that will introduce students to practical tools for kindness, courage, empathy, and positive peer leadership.

This pilot represents an important step in expanding the Heroes in Waiting mission to equip young people to stand up to bullying, strengthen their character, and become leaders within their schools and communities.

This great opportunity is being sponsored by Impact Ardmore, an organization that is continually looking for ways to improve the lives of the people of Ardmore and the surrounding communities through meaningful partnerships and community-driven initiatives.

We are grateful for the openness and leadership shown by Ardmore City Schools administrators and counselors who are committed to creating environments where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered.

We look forward to working alongside the Ardmore community as we begin this exciting next chapter.

More updates to come as we prepare to launch!
