STATE AND FEDERAL AUTHORITIES WARN OF DEADLY COUNTERFEIT PILLS ON THE STREETS OF OKLAHOMA

The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics (OBN), Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) are working to identify the source of a deadly counterfeit prescription drug. OBN Spokesman Mark Woodward says in recent weeks, one person has died and another victim was hospitalized after purchasing the drug on the streets.

“It appears both victims bought what they thought was the prescription painkiller, Oxycodone. However, a sample of a pill submitted to the OSBI Lab tested positive for Fentanyl, a very powerful and cheap synthetic opioid often sold on the black-market by itself or used as filler in such drugs as he**in. These counterfeit pills have been pressed into the same shape, with the same color and brand markings as legitimate pharmaceutical Oxycodone, so it’s almost impossible to tell the difference out on the streets.” ---Mark Woodward, OBN Spokesman

The victim who survived the overdose from this counterfeit drug was saved by the administration of Narcan, a drug that can reverse an opioid overdose. Woodward says authorities want the public to be aware of this new threat to help prevent any additional victims of this drug. Anyone with information that could help investigators identify the source of these pills is urged to call OBN at 1-800-522-8031. Callers can remain anonymous.

The official “Spaghetti Wednesday” will be on
May 28th of this year!! 🥳

🤔 What’s the purpose?
•Plan to gather around family & friends to talk about “hard” topics. This is a time to discuss things like depression, substance use, illicit fentanyl, bullying, etc.

🗣️What can I do to make the most out of Spaghetti Wednesday?
•TALK! Cultivate a space of no judgement allowing those around to be vulnerable with one another.

🫶🏼What resources will I have if someone confides in me?
•www.okimready.org is great for ALMOST all mental health and substance support.

🍝Why spaghetti?
Ty’s favorite meal was Spaghetti. Every Wednesday for 4+ yrs he would ride the school bus home with a friend. The friend’s mom would always ask “what’s for dinner?”. No one ever responded except for Ty.

Ty passed in 2020 when illicit fentanyl was really moving through Oklahoma & taking lives. Ty’s family and friends had never heard about illicit fentanyl. Had Ty been able to have had the knowledge prior to his death MAYBE he would’ve not taken the pill that took his life.
