Case for Smiles - Metro OKC Chapter Ryan’s Case for Smiles and its Metro OKC volunteers are devoted to helping sick children with life changing illnesses feel better to heal better Comfort 2.

Cindy Kerr began sewing pillowcases for her son Ryan more than a decade Ryan’s Case for Smiles is dedicated to helping sick children cope with the stress of life changing illnesses and injuries. We provide children with whimsical pillowcases throughout North America to give them an emotional boost and hope that enhances their emotional well-being. A hospital stay can be a terrifying experience for a child. So terrifying that 20% of children who survive cancer meet the full clinical diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). That’s a similar rate of PTSD to all U.S. Military Veterans since the Vietnam war. The good news is our whimsical pillowcases actually provide children with seven proven stress relievers during their hospital stays. These stress relievers include: 1. Distraction / Play 3. Choice/ Control 4. Familiarity 5. Expression 6. Connection 7. Hope Our new partnerships with the nation's leading child psychologists are helping us develop and distribute coping tools for families, with a goal to help children feel better to heal better. With every stitch, every yard of fabric and every pillowcase, we get one step closer to our goal of helping kids with life changing illnesses or injuries, feel better to heal better.

I am so in awe of the MetroOKC volunteers! After almost 2 months of 100• heat with no rain, we were welcomed this morning with a Noah like flooding rain. 16 of these volunteers waded out, got soaked and showed up for our sewing day. One of our most loyal home sewers even made the soggy drive north to deliver 60 beautiful pillowcases to us. We had an awesome pot luck lunch which we shared with the church personnel where we sew. We filled sign up sheets for 2 craft fairs we’ll be attending in November. We won’t be selling anything but will be accepting sponsorship donations for pillowcases being delivered to OU Childrens Hospital in November and December. As a co-coordinator of this chapter I am in honor of and so appreciative of these ladies each and every month. I am committed to this pillowcase ministry and feel so blessed by the support I see. Best volunteers ever! 😁❤️

After losing their daughter Lily, the Johnson family held on to her Ryan’s Case for Smiles pillowcases.

Looking forward to Tuesday, February 10th. Members of the Metro OKC Chapter of Ryan’s Case for Smiles will be sharing lunch with the Seniors Group at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond. We will be sharing with them the details of our pillowcase ministry. There will be a slide show representing sewing day and lots of information about the founding family and growth of our organization will be shared. Colorful pillowcases will be displayed and we will explain our motto, “Helping Kids Feel Better To Heal Better”. Fun times!

The Metro OKC Chapter is kind of like the USPS . Since its inception in 2008 not a single monthly delivery has been missed. During Covid a handful of hearty souls met at a neighbourhood clubhouse to complete our mission. When serious winter weather is anticipated we get busy. Home sewers can provide a helping hand and, somehow, our quota appears. I’m so proud of our volunteers as I’m sure other chapters are. Our dedication to OU Childrens Hospital is unwavering. We love Ryan’s Case for Smiles!!

If 2026 is as good for the Metro OKC Chapter as 2025 has been it’s going to be dynamite!! We added some awesome new volunteers to join the already fantastic group we had. We increased our visibility in the community due to some great publicity. Home sewers have multiplied and, thanks to our drop off location at the Holiday Inn Express Quail Springs, we have found a convenient way to add to our monthly inventory. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Edmond has invested heavily in our pillowcase ministry, providing great space for sewing, storage and enjoying a potluck lunch on sewing day. In the coming months we will provide our 70,000th pillowcase to OU Childrens Hospital and we have no intention of slowing down!

We’ve just reached 300 followers! Thank you for continuing support. We could never have made it without each one of you. Being a self funded nonprofit works when you’ve got the best group of volunteers, home sewers and supporters - and we do! We love our pillowcase ministry! 🤗🎉
