We are still on as scheduled for a potentially Significant Severe Weather event early this evening. The USA Weather Severe Weather Division has expanded the Moderate Risk and now a High Risk has been introduced west of the Oklahoma City/Norman metro area, as the high risk has the highest confidence of the potential of widespread destructive winds.

* Damaging to Destructive Winds, potential of 80+ MPH gusts, potentially approaching 100-110 MPH!
* Isolated Tornadoes
* Large Hail up to golf-ball size

If you have not already got your Severe Weather action plan in place, please rush that to completion ASAP, before the severe weather comes in tonight. Please be sure to have different avenues of receiving weather alerts, warnings and such, including NOAA Weather Radio, weather.gov, as well as have your phones fully charged and prepare for the potential of power outages. Some Severe Thunderstorm Warnings that could come about tonight will have the potential to be the enhanced version. If your area gets put under any warnings, please heed those warnings seriously and take the necessary shelter, in lowest floor of your building, basement, shelter, away from windows.

Stay tuned for the latest updates as they unfold.

***Wind Chill Alert remains in effect until 11 AM this morning along and west of I-35***

USA Weather Oklahoma City continues the Wind Chill Alert surrounding and west of I-35 until 11 AM this morning. Temperatures in the teens to low 20s this AM combined with anywhere from light winds to winds around 5-10 MPH will yield wind chills as low as single digits above zero in far western and NW OK to around 10 to the teens elsewhere.

We are continuing to monitor the likelihood of a Wind Chill Alert for at least some portions of the forecast area overnight tonight into early Sun morning. Stay tuned.

***Wind Chill Alert in effect thru 11 AM CST Saturday morning***

USA Weather in Oklahoma City has issued another Wind Chill Alert and is in effect with immediate effect and will last until 11 AM Saturday morning. This alert covers western and central Oklahoma surrounding and west of I-35.

Winds of around 5-10 MPH are forecast to become light & variable overnight along and south of I-40, but these winds are expected to continue in especially the northwest and north-central part of OK thru the early morning hours on Saturday, as a weak trough moves into the region. This in combination with temperatures dropping into the teens to low 20s will yield wind chills of around 10 to the teens through the overnight. Some places in western OK are currently experiencing wind chills in mid to upper teens at time of this alert being issued, meeting USA Weather Oklahoma City alert criteria for wind chills.

If heading outside, please bundle up in layers, along with hat & gloves and also continue taking the precautions to alleviate frozen pipes in your home, given well below freezing temperatures yet tonight, but not as cold as this morning.

We will monitor the weather for the potential of a further Wind Chill alert for late Saturday into early Sunday morning, as some areas, especially the northern forecast area could again reach low-end Wind Chill Alert criteria.

USA Weather Oklahoma City issues a Wind Chill Alert when wind chills are expected to drop down below 20 degrees and expected to have an impact with prolonged exposure.

01/21/2022

The Wind Chill Alert that was in effect since late Wed has been allowed to expire, as temperatures have moderated into the 30s and the wind chills are above alert criteria of 20 F. However, even though the alert has been allowed to expire, the wind chills are still in the 20s across the forecast area, so continue to bundle up if heading outside, along with hat and gloves.

01/21/2022

***Wind Chill Alert remains in effect until midday Friday***

While winds are moderating and will become more on the light side overnight, some areas will still have just enough wind (5-10 MPH in some areas) in combination with overnight lows in the single digits above zero in the northern and western forecast area north of I-40 and west of I-35, around 10 in the central part of OK including OK City and Norman, and into the teens further south including Red River valley. This combination will result in wind chills around -5 to -10 in northern and western OK, around 0 in central OK and in the single digits above zero in southern OK and Red River valley in TX including Wichita Falls.

For this reason, the Wind Chill Alert on the home page of the OK City USA Weather web site will remain on the site until around midday Friday, while wind chills stay below 20 F. Temps are forecast to get well in the 30s in north-central OK down to OK City/Norman area, into low to mid 40s in southern OK and part of western and NW OK including Woodward.

If heading outside overnight into early Friday, please plan accordingly and bundle up in layers, also with hat and gloves. Also, if not done already, take necessary precautions against possibility of frozen water pipes, if your home is susceptible to this occurring, including allowing a very slow drip from your faucet. Stay safe!
