What looks like a military tank, carries approximately 900 books and travels through the streets giving them away for free?
Meet Argentina’s Weapon of Mass Instruction! 🇦🇷📖
Argentine artist Raúl Lemesoff transformed a 1979 Ford Falcon into one of the most unusual mobile libraries in the world.
He covered the vehicle with metal bookshelves, added a rotating turret and shaped the entire creation to resemble a tank.
But this “weapon” doesn’t fire am******on.
It distributes books!
The shelves hold hundreds of donated titles, including novels, poetry, biographies and books for children.
Lemesoff drives through Buenos Aires and other communities, stopping for pedestrians, cyclists and anyone interested in taking a book.
And there’s no library card, checkout date or promise to return it.
The books are completely free. Lemesoff only asks that people read them.
By turning a symbol commonly associated with conflict into a vehicle for literacy, he created what he describes as a contribution to “peace through literature.”
