Salt and Light Leadership Training (S.A.L.L.T)

Salt and Light Leadership Training (S.A.L.L.T) Salt and Light Leadership Training (SALLT) is a non-profit leadership development program based in Oklahoma City. It is a 501c3.

The SALLT vision for OKC is: “To see fully flourishing human beings in body, mind, and spirit, living out God’s purposes of redemption, justice and righteousness as they engage in the common good for OKC.”

The mission of SALLT is to see the Kingdom of God come to OKC as it is in heaven. We pursue a deep love for the vulnerable, the marginalized and the voiceless. We work actively to lay our lives

down for our neighbors, and we strive to see the vision of Isaiah 61 embodied in Oklahoma City. The work of SALLT is to bring Human Dignity, Purposeful Existence and Community Harmony across our city as Christian leaders from the realms of business, government, education, arts & entertainment, media, churches and non-profits work together in strategic unity. The model of SALLT is the Clapham Circle, leaders from Great Britain who two hundred years ago brought both an end to slavery and a renewing of British culture.

Leader’s Toolkit: Margin
Creating Space for Discernment, Strategy, and Vision

As we step into summer, I’m realizing my calendar doesn’t quite reflect the season. Like many leaders, I can fill every open space with meetings, decisions, opportunities, and good work leaving little room for reflection, discernment, and renewal.

Lately, I’ve been reminded that one of the most overlooked leadership tools is margin.

Margin creates room to:
- Discern what deserves attention and what does not.
- Think strategically rather than react emotionally.
- Clarify vision and align decisions with purpose.

Jesus regularly withdrew to quiet places to pray. Rest wasn’t separate from His work, it prepared Him for it. As you plan your summer, consider building margin into your day, week, and month. Margin is not wasted time, it is a sacred space that gives perspective.

May this season create space for renewal, clarity, and fresh vision. “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” - Mark 6:31

New SALLT Leadership Podcast episode with Gary Brooks: What Is Your First National Center?

In this episode, Gary Brooks shares what the Lord has taught him through his journey as a successful real estate developer, and specifically, the renovation of the First National Center in Oklahoma City.

Renovating the First National Center was a presumably, impossible project that Gary shares was a prop for what the Lord wanted to do in him, more than it was about the building itself. We get to listen in and learn all the rich nuggets Gary learned, like living with holy expectation and the importance of stewarding God's spoken Word well. Gary also shares that the First National Center was a starting point for what the Lord has invited him to step into next, and encourages us to look for and lean into our "First National."

"If you want to keep walking with Him [Jesus], He will keep bumping it up. He will keep raising up the level of what it means to follow Him... There's people that will follow the Lord into a furnace, and there are people that won't even cross the street. And the Lord doesn't drag anyone, but wow is He inviting."

We asked SALLT Class leaders, how are you leading different today?

"I am more aware of what God is doing in the lives of others in our community and seeking ways to influence that I was not doing before attending SALLT. I am also a better listener to God and others."

And why should someone else be part of this? Why would you recommend SALLT to another leader?

"You become like those you spend time with. SALLT is led by amazing individuals and anyone will be better for having spent time with them. Each class is a collection of diverse people of faith that will sharpen your spiritual walk and leadership skills. Your leadership horizons will be expanded and allow you to see more than you did before."
