SGT Briar Swan just graduated RSLC and earned the identifier of B6. The course began with 54 soldiers across the country and only 10 graduated. It has been years since a soldier from the 1st Battalion, 179th Infantry Regiment and 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team has successfully passed.
RSLC is the offspring of the Long Range Surveillance Leadership Course at Fort Benning, the same location as Ranger School. The course taught the elements and foundational principles of reconnaissance and surveillance for Recon units. This involved construction of sub-surface hide sites, urban and mobile hides, high frequency communication paired with antenna theory and construction, collecting and reporting information on targets, advanced land navigation while under load, mission planning for reconnaissance tasks, and small unit tactics. This course is the absolute standard for reconnaissance.
