Adam D. Nevells Memorial Fund
In September 2009 Adam was entering his senior year at OHS as a Varsity Captain on both the Water Polo & Wrestling teams, member of the OHS Marching & Concert Bands, Worked with the Okemos Channel, was an Eagle Scout applicant, as well as a youth member at Large at Martin Luther Chapel - all while maintaining a 3.89 GPA.
Adam’s fatal car crash on September 4, 2009 in front of the High School profoundly impacted our family and our community at large. The Adam D. Nevells Memorial Fund was established in 2009 to provide back to the community as well as to keep Adam’s memory alive.
Since 2009, the Adam D. Nevells Memorial Fund has provided over $65,500 total through individual annual scholarships and grants back into the community Adam loved and was so loved by. This includes Scholarships to OHS athletics as well as music (graduating senior scholarships), Boy Scout Troop #125, and Martin Luther Chapel youth programs. The annual awards are made possible from the fund’s annual interest earned. As of January 2025, the fund’s balance is over $185,000.
The Annual Memorial Golf Outing & Dinner now supports, in addition to Adam’s fund, Both Okemos Bands and Youth Wrestling. This partnership has provided additionally more than $18,000 Directly to Okemos Bands (5-year total) and more than $7,000 to Okemos Youth Wrestling (3-year Total).
The top Sponsorship levels provide for “Full Sponsorship” with recognition at the Golf Outing, plus community events throughout the year at the Band Car Wash, and a Wrestling event as well. The second option provides for Sponsor recognition at the Golf Outing only.
