Michigan Young Birders Network

Michigan Young Birders Network MYBN, a program of , aims to connect young birders (13–18) and offer a space for them to share their enthusiasm for the avian world.

MYBN grew from the Michigan Young Birders Camp and replaced the former Michigan Audubon Young Birders Club. Young birders from around the state, many of whom have attended previous camp sessions, are taking part in creating and sustaining this network — and you’re invited to be a part of it! MYBN leaders and young birders hope to see this network grow over the next year and hope you can help us at

tain our goal of reaching 30 additional adolescents from around the state of Michigan to become regular participants in the program. Why only ages 13–18? As the network grows, we’ll be able to expand our opportunities and offer programming for additional age groups. Stay tuned to our social media networks for more information and updates! Join MYBN by filling out the interest form at https://forms.monday.com/forms/f61d5cf1e3197b3dbd8a46dcfae9a69c.

After two years of offering a virtual camp experience, Michigan Audubon is happy to announce that we’re moving back to an in-person Michigan Young Birders Camp for 2022! We are pleased to continue to connect young people with the diverse bird communities of the Great Lakes region for the fifth year. Michigan Audubon hopes to reach more young birders, ages 13–18, during this week filled with exciting bird and conservation adventures.

The 2022 Michigan Young Birders Camp will be held June 26–July 1 at Alma College. From here, participants will travel around the state, visiting different habitats and important bird areas. Throughout camp, we’ll discuss bird conservation topics, identification tips and techniques, and hear from guest speakers on topics related to birds.

The cost of camp is $500 per camper. This includes lodging, food, transportation during camp, camp materials, and camper swag. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. There is room for 12 campers. We will accept camper applications through May 1 or until spaces are filled.

Out of safety for all, we will follow special COVID-19 protocols. All those involved with the in-person activities of camp must be fully vaccinated. Masks, social distancing, and extra cleaning will be used as necessary, along with other state recommendations for overnight camps.
