Michigan has three communities that are working to ban flavored, including menthol, to***co products at the local level. We know that these products are attractive to new youth users and that preventing youth users is key to reducing adult usage. If you are in Wayne, Washtenaw or Kent County, please consider joining your local coalition. But regardless of where you live and work, please consider signing this resolution of support for strong local policies. The resolution can be signed both as an individual and as an organization.

To***co Free Michigan and MiHATT are starting a new effort to get to***co treatment specialists recognized by insurers so this important service can be properly funded. We believe that one important first step is increasing the certification rate of providers.

Just a reminder that today is the last day to sign the petition to encourage the state to adopt public health rules banning flavored va**ng products (and hopefully all flavored to***co products). Please make sure you sign it and share with friends/family/co-workers/members to get the word out.

The industry was in full force at the public hearing Tuesday with anecdotal stories of why these products are used by adults and not kids and outdated research about how safe they are. We need every voice we can get in support of these rules.

University of Michigan researchers just released a new study showing that the number of youth va**ng has DOUBLED in just the last two years. The National Youth To***co Survey indicated that over 20% of youth va**rs were va**ng because of the flavors available. Two great events happening tonight. The Campaign for To***co-Free Kids is honoring youth advocates and Governor Whitmer for to***co control efforts and the SPEAK coalition from St. Clair County is hosting a va**ng summit that is open to all.

Last year the governor issued emergency rules regarding the sale of flavored to***co products. They have been held up in court and are about to expire. Recently a set of permanent public health rules have been developed that would end the sale of flavored e-cigarettes in the state. This process includes a public comment period, and we know the to***co industry is going to put their full power into opposing the rules so we need everyone to get involved. To that end TFM, through the Keeping MI Kids To***co Free Alliance, is working to get as many signatures on a petition that will be submitted as part of the public comment.
