Congratulations to Sydney R of Port Huron for being a finalist of the State of Michigan 2026 “I Voted” sticker contest. Sydney designed a sticker featuring the Kirtland’s Warbler with the Mackinaw Bridge in the background. Winners will be chosen by the public. Voting is live now and ends on June 30th.

We are confident the Kirtland’s Warbler fans will want to help Sydney’s design win. To vote, go to the state website (https://forms.cloud.microsoft/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=h3D71Xc3rUKWaoku9HIl0ajjkSwlC4dEvMYAs9gerCpURDRSV1hIUDNNQTNCOFpXSlJER1lZVkVIVy4u&route=shorturl) where the drawings are featured. Sydney’s design is featured a bit towards the back, so keep advancing until you find it.

They say you should wait until mid-May before you plant anything in Michigan. But we here at the Kirtland's Warbler Alliance think differently. The first week in May is ALWAYS the best time to plant a Jack Pine Tree!!!

If you have that itchy feeling that you need to exercise your green thumb, we have a fix for you. Come join us THIS WEEKEND as we plant six acres of young jack pine trees on Saturday, May 2nd. We will have hot coffee, doughnuts, and free T-shirts for each volunteer. Come join in the fun! Registration details are below. Please DM us if you have any questions.

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Kirtland’s Warbler 2026 Young Artists Contest. This program, funded by the American Bird Conservancy, the Kirtland's Warbler Festival, and the Kirtland's Warbler Alliance, aims to educate K-8th graders about the Kirtland’s Warbler, which spent more than 50 years on the U.S. Endangered Species list before being delisted in 2019. This delisting would not be possible without the ongoing international conservation effort that spans 1,800 miles, from the jack pine breeding grounds in the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada to the hardwood coppice wintering grounds in The Bahamas.

The 2026 Kirtland’s Warbler Young Artists Contest winners represent 3 countries. Their art will be featured in a calendar celebrating the warbler and its habitats.

Kirtland’s Warbler migration has begun, starting a roughly 1,700‑mile journey toward its breeding grounds in the Great Lakes region. During this migration, Kirtland’s Warblers make key stopovers in Florida, resting and refueling in low, shrubby habitats before continuing north.

Did you know that the trip from the Bahamas to their nesting grounds for the Kirtland's Warbler can take as little as 13–16 days? This means that they are roughly 3–4 weeks away from actually departing the Bahamas on migration, depending on weather and individual condition. Have you booked your Kirtland's Warbler tour yet?
