Post 5596 is proud to have been a part in the establishment of the Washington County Veterans Assistance Commission. The Veterans Assistance Commission provides a local resource to assist Washington County veterans, their surviving spouses and dependents with processing claims with the VA, the VA system is vast and complex, many veterans will not even bother to submit claims for the benefits they earned because of that reason alone. This local resource makes this process much easier, Matt Kasten, the Superintendent of the VACWC is fully accredited by the VA and has access to all the needed systems and resources to provide that assistance without the veteran, surviving spouse or dependents having to navigate the VA bureaucracy by him/herself. Although fully accredited by the VA, Matt does not work for the VA, he works for you, the veteran and taxpayer and is accountable to the Commission. The Commission is made up of Delegates and Alternates from VFW Post 5596, The American Legion Post 233, Okawville, and The American Legion Post 110 in Nashville.
The Commission may also provide financial assistance to those Washington County veterans, surviving spouses or dependents who qualify.
