You may hear them, before you see them; Eastern Phoebes. They are known for their “fee-bee” call.

They will be migrating in our area and in Mexico as well.

Primarily an aerial insectivore that catches flying insects—such as flies, wasps, beetles, moths, and cicadas—on the wing. BUT…Also consumes spiders, ticks, millipedes, and occasionally small fruits, seeds, or berries during colder months.

Much like our Palm Warblers, they took will pump their tail.

Seeing one bird, can really brighten up your day! 😊

We saw this Hermit Thrush, acting like he didn’t have a care in the world, as we watched him.

They hunt for insects on the ground by vibrating their feet against the grass or leaf litter to flush out hidden prey. (All About Birds)

Unlike many other species, they winter across the southern United States, along the Pacific coast, Mexico, and parts of Central America, avoiding the long-distance Gulf of Mexico crossings required by many other species.

Who are you calling butter 🧈 butt?! The playful nickname of the Yellow Rumped Warbler, because it looks as if a tab of butter 🧈 was placed on its tail. Found a pair on my very cold 🥶 & windy 🌬️ walk this morning.

Unlike other warblers, Yellow-rumped Warblers are able to survive harsh eastern winters due to their ability to eat berries when insects and other foods might not be available. High levels of bile salts allow them to digest the wax found in the coating of berries from a variety of plants, including bayberry, juniper, wax myrtle, and poison ivy. (Audubon)

Enjoy this Northern Parula in flight, in its search for bugs yesterday.

“Let your dream be your wings” 🪽

A surprise garden flag purchased by my husband, turned into my own personal mantra. Our dream of creating a place where people can bird, that will be protected forever, is just one of our goals at The Lowcountry Birding Center.

Creating a birding community, educating, embracing nature, appreciating the best of our birds.

Well, we didn’t have to go very far for the best shot of the day. 🦅 🦅

I believe they were thanking us, for preserving this adjacent lot forever, so that nature can thrive.

Summer Tanager 💛 enjoying the late afternoon. At this time of year, I take a morning and late afternoon stroll.

It was nice to see this beauty perched not too far above my head. And, she acted like she wanted to be photographed.

Moments like this are why birding is the most wonderful hobby. 🥰

Isn’t this the craziest optical illusion of these Roseate Spoonbills 🩷🩷 yesterday!

As one flew in, it makes the other bird look like he has gigantic wings! 🪽 Of course the incoming spoon flew in the opposite direction so I couldn’t capture a “double spoon moment”.

Moments like this don’t just happen, that’s why we love birding. You learn the art of patience, enjoying peaceful surroundings and yes, sometimes seeing magic right before your eyes.

The perfect Lowcountry setting. The beach, a graceful Great Egret. But this photo we took today has so much more detail.

It’s the sea oats 🌾 that protect & stabilize our dune systems, nurture numerous species and most importantly; protect inland areas.

One photo that we took today represents so much.
