Dolly Parton cared deeply for others -especially children. She created the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in 1995 and for years, children enrolled in our community have benefited from the amazing gift of free books mailed directly to their homes. Her impact in Ojo Sarco and across the country is significant and her legacy is inspiring.

Our communities need leaders! This Rising Leaders Academy is a great opportunity for anyone 18-35 interested in leading an organization or serving their community! Check it out.

Are you 18–35, living in Northern New Mexico, and interested in making a difference in your community?

The Rising Leaders Academy is a five-session program designed to prepare young adults to serve on school boards, nonprofit boards, councils, commissions, and other community organizations.

You’ll learn:
✅ Board governance and leadership
✅ Robert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure
✅ How to read financials and budgets
✅ Ethics and effective decision-making
✅ Strategic planning
✅ Mentorship and professional networking

The program includes:
▪️Five sessions from October through March
▪️Real-world experience observing three board, council, or commission meetings
▪️A $500 stipend upon completion
▪️Certificate of completion

No degree or prior board experience required

National Nonprofit Day honors the hard work, impact, and contributions of charitable organizations that support communities! OSCCL is a nonprofit and we are supported by several nonprofit organzations. We are grateful for their partnership and the positive difference that they make in our world.

Ojo Sarco Community Center & Library provides free guest WiFi that is accessible in our building and from our parking lots. But did you know that we are also a community resiliency site, meaning that we have backup power during outages? It is important to know that we can support interim access to plug in medical equipment and provide WiFi when the power is out. Kit Carson Electric is currently increasing our bandwidth to improve WiFi calling from cell phones. Cell phone coverage is a problem but thank you to Kit Carson Electric Cooperative for responding how they can to support our communities!

We have some limited space still available for additional artists who want to join in for the High Road Art Tour. OSCCL is a community site and stop #21. Calling design minded teens - The NM Rural Library Initiative is looking for teen interns to help design solar powered spin art machines that will be used at libraries across NM, including OSCCL. $250 intern stipend for four feedback sessions plus reimbursement for optional travel to Santa Fe. Can be done remotely via Zoom.
