Scientists are always attempting to lure the Monarch Butterfly mysteries to reveal their secrets.

We are hopeful this will be an exciting learning opportunity, opening new doors of scientific data and facts, for the benefit of our ecosystem, the habitats it provides, and migrating Monarchs pollinating our food over many miles too.

For the first time, scientists are tracking the migration of monarch butterflies across much of North America, actively monitoring individual insects on journeys. Monarch Arc is grateful Xerces took a step back from their hypothesized stance to include the science and current data for a more inclusive look at the Monarch Butterfly’s Western Migration Population, California specifically.

Monarch butterflies are famous for their annual migrations, but not all migrate. In recent years, more and more monarchs have been living and breeding year-round in California’s Bay Area, thanks in part to the growing presence of non-native milkweeds in urban gardens.
