Rotary Club of Ojai West to Dedicate Peace Pole in Rotary Park
Ojai, CA – The Rotary Club of Ojai West is pleased to announce the dedication of a Peace Pole at Rotary Park on Tuesday, March 4, at 9:00 AM. This special event will feature remarks from local government and religious leaders, and the public is warmly invited to attend.
Peace Poles, internationally recognized symbols of hope and unity, display the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in multiple languages. Several Peace Poles are already placed throughout the Ojai Valley, reflecting the community’s deep commitment to peace. In 2015, Ojai was officially designated an International City of Peace, reinforcing its longstanding dedication to fostering global harmony.
As part of the ceremony, Wade Nomura, a district leader of Rotary International, will present a Ginkgo tree from Hiroshima, Japan—a powerful symbol of resilience and peace.
Rotary Park, located at the junction of Highways 33 and 150 in western Ojai, is a beloved public space featuring a horse statue by artist Ted Gall. The park was built by the Rotary Club of Ojai West, and sits on historic ground once home to a lumberyard, train station, and stagecoach stop.
The Rotary Club of Ojai West is a non-profit, non-political organization dedicated to enriching the Ojai Valley community through scholarships and grants to local non-profit agencies. The club sponsors the Ojai Summer Band, the Floating Classroom on Lake Casitas, and provides dictionaries to every third grader in the valley. The club’s primary fundraising event, the Ojai Wine Festival, takes place annually in June.
