This week was the Channel Island District Luncheon in Thousand Oaks. Members of the OVGC Board attended. Speakers included John Schoustra from Greenwood Daylily Nursery and Apricot Lane Farm, Dale Harshburger from Armstrong Nursery, and Bill Brandt a Fruit Tree Expert.

The food was delicious and the silent auction exciting! Thanks so much to our hosts the Organic Garden Club of Ventura County.

We recently celebrated another year of Garden Club with a potluck luncheon at the lovely home of Gayle and Dick Whitaker. Gayle, Dick and Beth had created painted succulent pots as centerpieces which doubled as keepsakes for members to take home.

Members brought delicious appetizers, salads and killer desserts!

Today was the first day the Tea Tent was open at the Ojai Tennis Tournament and I had the honor of doing the flowers for the serving table. (They're all from my garden). Other members will be doing the arrangements and I'lll post them each day.

This week Garden Club members had the opportunity to visit the Strauss Gardens in the East End of Ojai. Peter graciously led us through his extensive gardens which feature rare agaves and aloes, his greenhouse filled with interesting and rare species of cactus from around the globe, his California native plant section and a lovely rose garden adjacent to his elegant spanish style home beneath the shade of a massive Coast Live Oak. He shared an abundance of horticultural knowledge of the plants he nurtures. We thoroughly enjoyed our day! Here are just a few of the photos taken by various members.

Our official Wreath Fundraiser wound up today at the. Ojai Presbyterian Church as enthusiastic customers came by to select their holiday wreaths. Club members worked so hard and had so much fun during the lengthy process of foraging, preserving and creating the decorations for the 175 wreaths which will be gracing Ojai homes this holiday season. The proceeds will be used to fund a scholarship to a graduating Nordhoff student as well as grants to local organizations.

Thanks to Pat West for being the ringleader this year and to all the members who helped with orders, setup, food, cleanup and creating these one-of-a-kind natural wreaths.
