Get your hands in the dirt! June is soil month for the Green Coalition, and we're bringing you two great FREE workshops. First, it's Green Gardening with educator and amazing gardener Erin Harris on Saturday June 13. Erin tackles getting to know your soil—understanding your soil composition and conditions and what will grow best in your yard. Then on Saturday June 27, join Dr. David White—the Soil Doctor— for hands-on composting, bug hunting, and gardening tips. All ages are welcome for this free event. Sign up for one or both workshops today at ojaivalleygreencoalition.org/calendar.

Join us Thursday at Green Drinks, featuring the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy—an organization many people in Ojai know well. But this presentation will give you a special sneak peek at the restoration initiatives that the Land Conservancy is most excited about this year, and the tremendous effort and passion that goes into the conservation of the lands we love. Learn about the new nursery expansion at Ojai Meadows Preserve, and discover how the Land Conservancy thinks of conservation: not in terms of seasons, years, or even decades—but generations. One night only at Farmer & the Cook: an inspiring presentation followed by a Q&A session with Nursery Manager Sophie McLean. Come for the talk; stay for the snacks and prizes! Learn more at https://www.ojaivalleygreencoalition.org/2026/06/04/565053/green-drinks-9/ .

Calling all readers! Green Reads is back with a summer book club led by local writer and activist Kit Stolz. We're starting in June with Bill McKibben's memoir, The Flag, The Cross, and the Station Wagon—looking at the roots of American individualism and how it has impacted problems like inequality and the climate crisis. This is going to be a really interesting one-night only discussion. Reserve your spot today at https://www.ojaivalleygreencoalition.org/2026/06/22/550506/green-books-american-individualism-and-the-climate-crisis/.

Today, we're very excited to share a special film about our biggest project: the Ojai Ecology Center. Over the past three years, the Ojai Valley Green Coalition has led community input sessions and a design process to plan the transformation of the underutilized campus at Ojai City Hall into an exciting nature education center. In this film, community leaders and experts—Brian Aikens from the Ojai Historic Preservation Commission, Chumash elder and storyteller Julie Tumamait-Stenslie, and Ojai Valley Land Conservancy nursery manager Sophie McLean—talk about the Eco Center and its potential to unite our community, while honoring the property’s past, present, and future uses. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers at Bowspirit and Coldwater Collective for their contributions to this project. It is a beautiful film that captures the collective spirit of our project. View and share the film—and discover ways to get involved here: https://www.ojaivalleygreencoalition.org/2026/05/15/29534/stronger-together-a-short-film-about-the-ojai-ecology-center/
