🕷️ Tick Safety Starts With Simple Steps

Warm weather means more time outside, and a higher chance of encountering ticks. We encourage everyone to take a few easy precautions to stay safe this season:

Use insect repellent with DEET, picaridin, or permethrin‑treated clothing.

Check your whole body after being in grass, brush, or wooded areas.

Shower within two hours of coming indoors to wash off ticks before they attach.

Roll clothing with a sticky lint roller to pick up tiny ticks that are easy to miss.

Check pets daily since ticks often hitch a ride indoors on fur.

Remove ticks promptly using fine‑tipped tweezers. Pull straight out without twisting.

Ticks can be very small, and many people never notice a bite. A bull's-eye rash isn't always present when someone is infected with a tick‑borne illness. If you experience fever, fatigue, or flu‑like symptoms after spending time outdoors, contact your healthcare provider right away. Early care makes a difference.

Stay safe, stay outdoors, and stay tick aware.

Water Safety Starts Before You Dive In

Whether you're spending time at the pool, lake, river, or beach this summer, a few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe.

💧 Never leave children unattended near water, even for a moment.

💧 Wear a properly fitted life jacket when boating, kayaking, or participating in water sports.

💧 Avoid swimming alone and always choose designated swimming areas when available.

💧 Stay alert to changing water conditions, including currents, weather, and water depth.

💧 Remember that alcohol and water activities can be a dangerous combination.

💧 Learn CPR and basic water rescue skills. Quick action can save a life in an emergency.

A fun day on the water starts with safety. Take a few extra precautions so you and your loved ones can enjoy all that summer has to offer.

Congratulations! Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Auxiliary awarded $1,000 scholarships to eight outstanding seniors entering a Health Care Field.
Pictured here is Hailee Jackson, Heuvelton Central School Class of 2026.
Class Rank: 4 of 30 with a GPA of 96.40
Attending University of Vermont in the Fall
Healthcare Field: Nursing
State Aim and Goals for Life: “My goal is to be a registered nurse. I’d like to specialize in pediatrics. I want to be a light for patients in the dark”.
Leadership: Student Council President and Treasurer, Student Ex-Officio BOE Member, and National Honor Society.
Awards: High Honor Roll, National Honor Society and Advanced Regents Diploma.
Service Contributions/Extracurricular Activities: Softball, Cheerleading, Drama/Encore Club for 7 years with 5 supporting roles and 2 lead roles, Whiz Quiz, Marching Band and MASH Camp.
Out of School Activities: ACT Children’s Theater, Julie’s Dance Studio for 5 yrs, and a volunteer at Dance Studio helping the younger kids.
