Today is June 19th.
The story of Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is more than a proclamation or a law.
Juneteenth challenges us not only to remember history but also to examine how we can help create a more just future.

St. Lawrence Valley Renewal House: Many survivors have voiced that they did not believe they were experiencing abuse because of the lack of education surrounding domestic violence and the different tactics used against a victim to maintain power and control over them.
MYTH: Many people insist that if your partner is not physically violent, then no abuse has occurred.
FACT: Emotional abuse IS abuse; they don't leave marks, but the cost is equally as high.
To learn more, please call our hotline at (315)379-9845.

Emotional abuse can affect a person’s confidence, self-worth and emotional well-being over time.

If any of these warning signs feel familiar, know that you do not deserve to be treated that way, and you are not alone. Recognizing that a relationship may be unhealthy can feel overwhelming, and deciding what to do next is not always easy.

Connecting with a trusted friend, family member or support system can help. Our advocates are also available 24/7 to talk through your situation, explore options, and help support you on your path forward.

"Melinda French Gates has pledged $215 million to improve women's health globally, supporting contraception, maternal care, mental health, and menopause research. Over the past two years, she has invested more than $600 million in women's health. This latest commitment is part of her broader $1 billion effort to advance women's power, health, and opportunity.

As Gates recently said, 'Women's health is fundamental.' When women have access to the care, resources, and research they need, the benefits extend far beyond individual health outcomes. Families, communities, and economies are stronger." -- The Female Quotient

Kudos to Melinda French Gates for her massive investments in advancing women's healthcare worldwide!

For an insightful book that explores how women's health has long been neglected, we highly recommend "All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us About Women's Bodies and Why It Matters Today" at https://bookshop.org/a/8011/9780063293014 (Bookshop) and https://amzn.to/4lKkRoO (Amazon)

British medical historian Elinor Cleghorn has also written an important book about the historical and systemic reasons the medical system fails girls and women: "Unwell Women: Misdiagnosis and Myth in a Man-Made World" at https://www.amightygirl.com/unwell-women

For books to encourage kids' interest in making a difference in the world -- both locally and globally -- visit our blog post “Making an Impact: 40 Mighty Girl Books About Charity and Community Service” at https://www.amightygirl.com/blog?p=10983

For an excellent way to make donating to charity a regular part of your child’s life, we recommend a divided piggy bank that includes a separate chamber for charitable donations -- two of our favorites are the Moonjar Moneybox (https://www.amightygirl.com/moonjar-classic) and the Smart Pig Trio Bank (https://www.amightygirl.com/smart-piggy-trio-bank)
