On January 13, 2026, New York Governor Hochul delivered her 2026 State of the State address and released an accompanying policy handbook, which includes the item "Improving Vital Records Access" on page 132. It says that Governor Hochul intends to make overdue technological improvements to the vital records system, launching an effort to digitize archival records for genealogical requests and converting historical birth, death, and marriage certificates into electronic, searchable formats as a means to address the current two-year backlog of more 12,000 genealogical records requests.

A Flag Presentation to St. Lawrence County Legislature was held on January 2, 2026 to celebrate our country's 250th year.

You may remember last year’s campaign to support the Ogdensburg Museum and that Historian Julie Madlin, Sally Hartman Susan Weidler taught an 8 month course on the Constitution, culminating with the Petition Ceremony at City Hall when Mayor Tooley announced that September 17th through 23rd was Constitution Week in the City of Ogdensburg. It was very well received by the community.

This year we are designing and promoting a “Give Your Ogdensburg Library A Lift” campaign to help raise money for the lift makeover and housing structure to keep it within managed climate control. Library Director Penny Kerfien and Chapter Regent Sally Hartman planned a PR campaign to get the word out and ask for donations from organizations and the general public.

Chapter members may make their own donations too!
