This week during the City Council work session they will be discussing the general plan. This is a great opportunity to listen in and KNOW before you GO!

This way you can be better informed and bring up anything you’d like on Wednesday!

Sometimes you can even get a free banana so it’s worth going

In the work session this week (council, RDA, MBA) they will be tackling the My Hometown Ogden Annual Report, waterline bonding, ongoing short term rental ordinances discussion, and an update on general plan revisions (good idea to listen in on this on in preparation for the You MAKE Ogden presentation on Wednesday the 24th! Know Before You GO!)

The City Council Meeting will feature a public hearing for the fiscal year amendments, updates from the planning commission on the ongoing issues of: Lynn Community plan update, Gibson Ave rezone, and the creation of a flex industrial zone.

A ink to the full packet is in the comments.

County Commission this week has action items regarding asphalt and solid waste, some people will be getting crystal bowls as awards, and they may or may not (but most likely will) pray about moisture to kick things off so tune in if you can. A link to that agenda will also be in the comments!

Remember, all of these meetings are available online so you can be doing something else that’s way more fun while you half listen, which is what I do and why these updates are pretty loosey goosey.

What a week in local government- bricks! Demolition Derbies! Bending pipes! Here’s a (lengthy) recap- give it a skim and let us know what caught your attention!

City Council Work Session/RDA special session and Meeting 3/25/24

-Proposal to update the Lynn Community Plan to preserve the historic aspects of the area, specifically 2nd st west of Wall Ave. Consensus was that there should be an effort to preserve the historic parts of what is one one Ogden’s oldest neighborhoods. There is talk of making a park and considering all of these factors when updating the Lynn Community Plan. There is a lot of neighbor support for this.

-Who knew there was so much to talk about regarding brick in the East Central District– the different types of brick. what happens to brick quality and longevity when you paint it, what happens when you paint it when you shouldn’t have, what happens if your neighbor can paint your brick and you can’t, what happens if you’re not allowed to decide what you can do with your own brick, how do you inform everyone about the status of all the brick and what you can do with it. This issue will be revisited at a later date.

-proposed rezone of 1450 Gibson Ave to allow for multi-family housing (the planning commission is requesting a denial as the area is commercial/industrial and adding housing would impact those uses, citing that there are plenty of other areas that are zoned for living)
The discussion got pretty in-depth. There are a lot of considerations about different zoning types butting up against each other, ingress and egress of commercial vehicles, and so on. This is planned to be on the April 9th agenda if you feel some type of way about this and would like to make a comment.

-Update on the vacation of Cahoon St with plans from UDOT for the I-15 24th st interchange and whether or not that would interfere with the proposed plans from the petitioners. The UDOT interchange project’s scope isn’t fully fleshed out yet and the meeting with UDOT for more information (environmental assessments and so on) was pushed back. It was mentioned that this might be on the April 9th agenda as well but the full plans from UDOT for this area aren’t likely to be completed until early September.

-proposed mid-year budget adjustments totalling about $7.5 million
-Some budget-y stuff involving sales tax and increment bonds for the RDA and MBA and how these funds are appropriated. We might be able to explain this particular part further in a separate post. April 23rd will be the public hearing on these items.

CIty Council meeting was short and sweet and had two public comments regarding work sessions items and some Boy Scouts in attendance to earn a badge for something, and then they adjourned for a closed session.

County Commission 3/25/24
Thought of the Day: Commissioner Froerer
A great presentation honoring Van Summerill and all that he contributed to the Peery’s Egyptian Theater!

City council this week is light on the agenda, just an extension of the Marshall White Center advisory committee, but an interesting work session so tune in for that online at 4pm on 3/19!

County Commission this week has action items relating to certification of the democratic primary, appointing representatives to a taxing entity committee, appointing someone to the Powder Mountain Water and Sewer board of trustees, buying tasers for correction deputies, and interior furniture for the Eccles Conference Center.

There will also be a public hearing RE a rezone of a 25 acre area from agricultural to R1-15 and R-3, which is always a fun time so tune in for that or get your input ready if this is of concern to you!
