Give Me A Chance - Utah

Give Me A Chance - Utah Vincent de Paul. She saw the skills they would learn as a pathway toward better paying jobs in the workplace, and thus a step closer to self-sufficiency.

We support women and children toward self-reliance, confidence, success, and accomplishment of their personal goals in an environment of respect based on Catholic social teaching & tradition of service of the Daughters of Charity of St. In the Fall of 2010, with a vision in her heart, Daughter of Charity Sister Maria Nguyen rented a 100-year-old building in central Ogden, and began offering sewing

classes to low-income women. Her vision quickly caught on, as members of the community joined her in making the program a reality. Within a short time, Sister Maria noticed the women who were attending the sewing classes needed a safe place for their children, so she started an after-school program where the children could find help with their homework difficulties, and experience fun learning activities in science, music and art. Sister Arthur Gordon joined Give Me A Chance as Executive Director in 2016. She helped the center focus on strategic growth as it continued to empower the women and children in the community. Under her, we started to offer more classes to the community. Since then, we offer as classes: Computer Literacy, Arts for Spirituality, Sewing/Quilting, English as a Second Language, and the After-School Program/Summer Program. In 2020, we welcomed Sister Martha as the new & current Executive Director. She helped us previously with our After-School Program, and since then we have been working with her to plan upcoming events and activities to encourage communication & participation from the community.

We were blessed to receive the help of student volunteers from St. Joseph's Catholic High Saint Joseph Catholic High School-Home of the Jayhawks! Afterwards, the kind teachers from our Sewing Classes took time to show the students how to prep and use sewing machines. Thank you again to these volunteers for sharing their time with us!
