The Livastride Foundation will host 300 area high school students at its 10th Annual Financial Literacy Bootcamp from 8:15 AM to 1:30 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2019, Shepherd Union Building ballrooms at the Weber State University Ogden campus.
Everyone needs to learn the value of a dollar, how to make money work toward goals, and how to protect their financial legacy. In fact, the sooner you start the better! Students who attend the bootcamp will learn about the valuing of investing, setting goals, and possess a better understanding of debt.
"For the last decade, I've shown bootcamp students how, with compound interest, if they can invest $2,000 while they are young, over time that investment can grow to $1 million or more," said Billy Peterson, founder of the Livastride Foundation, the nonprofit sponsored by his company, Peterson Wealth Services, as well as America First Credit Union.
"If you can get a summer job mowing lawns, if you can babysit for your neighbors, if you can do anything to earn $2,000 now and stay disciplined in investing throughout your life, you will be able to retire comfortably when the time arrives," Peterson says to high school students.
Peterson is the author of "Harnessing Your Wealth: Pursuit of Millionaire Status," a new book already listed as a best seller on two Amazon lists, set to officially launch October 15. Participants in the bootcamp will be among the first to receive copies of Peterson's book.
"Billy knows about commitment, the necessary discipline to become wildly successful and to help guide others to financial success," said Jeffrey T. Dobyns, CFP®, CLU, ChFC, president of Southwest Investment Group.
Chris Hancock, a Fremont High School teacher who has attended with students in the past, said "Our students loved the speakers and the positive encouragement they gave them. The thing that stood out to them was that they can succeed in their life if they choose to."
The schedule for activities Tuesday includes opening remarks at 8:15 AM in Shepherd Union Building. Students will participate in classroom-style rotations of three workshops from 8:45 AM to 11 AM.
Motivational Speaker Jessie Funk will address the students at 11:35 AM. A business panel will answer questions and discuss strategies for one hour, starting at 12:30 PM.
