Abate Weber Chapter The purpose of ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Towards Education) is to preserve the individual rights and freedoms of the road.

The purpose of ABATE (American Bikers Aiming Towards Education) AKA (A Brotherhood Aimed Towards Education) formerly (A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian Enactments) is to preserve the individual rights and freedoms of the road; to unit motorcyclists and motorcycle rights supporters in a brotherhood; to promote fair legislation, safety and rider education; and to provide a network for communication on issues affecting motorcyclists. Originally called the NCCA (National Custom Cycle Association), the organization was forced to change its name due to similarities the acronym had to other Federal organizations. After much deliberation and considerable thought, the organization came up with a name that was both an acronym, and a single word describing the organizations purpose. The single word name is ABATE, which means "to put an end to; to reduce in degree or intensity; to beat down; to decrease in force or intensity" and the acronym stands for "A Brotherhood Against Totalitarian (strict control by coercive measures; completely regulated by the state) Enactments (to pass into law)". Later, in order to make the name seem less intimidating, the acronym was changed to "A Brotherhood (or American Bikers) Aiming Towards Education".

Utah lawmakers consider permanently allowing motorcycle lane filtering on roads up to 55 mph.

Lane filtering refers to motorcycles moving between vehicles, as long as traffic is stopped and riders pass at a slow speed. Currently, lane filtering is allowed on streets with maximum speed limits of 45 mph, and at off-ramps.

Mid-Event Colors Ban At Las Vegas BikeFest 2026

Before Las Vegas BikeFest 2026 in North Las Vegas, the Southern Nevada Confederation of Clubs was assured there would not be a "no colors" policy. Midway through the event, colors and cuts were banned. Multiple entities gave shifting explanations, and no one took responsibility for the policy change. Among those banned was the International Vice President of the Soldiers for Jesus Motorcycle Club, an MRF Board Member who had a booth at the event.

"Clubs did what was asked of them. They got assurances and showed up in good faith," said Kirk "Hardtail" Willard, MRF President. "Changing the rules midway through, then refusing to say who made the call, is the kind of treatment riders across this country are tired of."

This is what many in the motorcycling community deal with every day. The MRF has fought motorcyclist profiling in Washington for years, winning passage of anti-profiling resolutions in the Senate (S.Res. 154, 2018) and House (H.Res. 366, 2022) and backing 2026 language in the House BUILD America 250 Act that bars federal funds for programs that profile motorcyclists.

Riders can help. Take the Motorcycle Profiling Project's National Motorcycle Profiling Survey every year. Each year the questions shift to gather new data for future state and federal legislative efforts. What stays the same each year is that the survey includes only five (5) anonymous questions and takes about a minute. Take the survey at https://www.motorcycleprofilingproject.com/survey

Data from thousands of past survey participants has been central to the MRF's case on Capitol Hill, and every new response makes that case stronger.

Lane filtering helps reduce the risk of rear-end collisions and keeps motorcyclists safer on Utah’s highways. Respect the law, follow the rules, and don’t abuse the privilege.

If we want to keep lane filtering legal in Utah, we must all do our part to use it responsibly. Don’t take advantage of this law or put it at risk of being revoked. Utah has permitted lane filtering since 2019, and the statute is scheduled to sunset on July 1, 2027.

Ride smart, ride safe, and help us protect the law that helps protect motorcyclists!
