First Lego League - Utah

First Lego League - Utah FIRST LEGO League is a fun, global robotics and innovation program that sparks enthusiasm for science, technology, engineering, and math. For ages 9-14.

With adult Coaches to guide them, FIRST® LEGO® League teams (up to 10 members) apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts, plus a big dose of imagination, to develop solutions to real-world challenges. They also design, build, and program LEGO MINDSTORMS®-based robots to perform autonomous “missions” on a playing field. Along the way, they develop critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills. Grades 4-8; ages 9-14

Over the past decade, Weber State University has served as the FIRST Program Delivery Organization for the FIRST LEGO League programs in Utah.

WSU will be stepping down from our role as FIRST's Program Delivery Organization in Utah, effective March 31, 2025. We have enjoyed the journey and still hope to host a regional qualifier each season at WSU.

FIRST will begin the process of selecting a new Program Delivery Organization for the 2025-26 season very soon and will be in touch with teams when they are ready to make an announcement. Please check the email address you provided to FIRST during team registration regularly over the summer to make sure you don’t miss any of these important updates. Once a new Program Delivery Organization is named, we ask that you exercise patience and your very best Gracious Professionalism with your new Program Delivery Organization as they step up to fill a very big job.

We wish you all the best in the coming season and beyond!

“We always strive to solve real-world problems that can affect future generations.” - FIRST® LEGO® League team “Giga Bears”

Invention inspires continual human progress. With the support of companies like Qualcomm, we’re able to provide the opportunities and resources for more kids to get involved with STEM, creating a more innovative future for all. We talked to three FIRST teams on what they’re doing to be more innovative for a STEM-led tomorrow.

Today, STEM skills are needed in nearly every role in every industry. FIRST is proven to help students build the STEM skills and the real-world skills they need to succeed in any career – even those not traditionally considered STEM.

Start with FIRST®, Get Anywhere. FIRST helps build the STEM skills and real-world skills young people need to become productive global citizens – including teamwork, resiliency, and a lifelong love of learning.

The Impact You Make as a FIRST® Volunteer

FIRST® is made possible because of volunteers like you - coaching, mentoring, and creating an exciting and positive event atmosphere for our participants to learn and grow. During the FIRST IN SHOWSM season presented by Qualcomm, our volunteers gave more than 33 million hours to the FIRST mission and served over 785,000 youth around the world. Participants spent the year developing valuable workforce skills such as teamwork, communication, and problem-solving while gaining insight to even more STEM careers and disciplines.
