🌮🌪️ TACO TERMINOLOGY 🌪️🌮

Ever hear the terms *Tornado Watch*, *Tornado Warning*, or *Tornado Emergency* and wonder what they really mean?

We put together this fun graphic that explains NOAA tornado alerts in taco language! While it's meant to get a laugh, the message behind it is serious:

🌮 **Taco Watch** = Tornado Watch
Ingredients are coming together. Conditions are favorable for tornadoes to develop.

🌮 **Taco Warning** = Tornado Warning
A taco is being assembled. A tornado has been spotted or indicated by radar. Take shelter immediately.

🌮 **Taco Emergency** = Tornado Emergency
The taco supply is in critical danger. A confirmed, violent tornado is causing or expected to cause catastrophic damage. This is a life-threatening situation.

Humor can help us remember important safety information, but when severe weather strikes, always rely on official forecasts, watches, warnings, and emergency information from the National Weather Service.

Stay weather aware, know your safe place, and as always—when in doubt, take shelter! 🌪️

🎉 Huge congratulations to our two newest hams! 🎉

Today, two outstanding youth applicants passed their Technician exams and officially joined the amateur radio community! Even better, through our partnership with the W5YI youth licensing grant, their FCC license fees are completely covered!

This incredible program sponsors free licenses for anyone aged 25 and under, and the Porter County Amateur Radio Club is proud to help bring the next generation into the hobby. Let’s give them a massive shoutout in the comments! 📻👏

Curious about amateur radio or thinking about getting your own license? We’d love to help you get started. Reach out to us to learn more about the hobby, our upcoming testing sessions, and how you can get on the air! 📡⚡

June is Field Day month — and our upcoming club meeting is dedicated entirely to getting ready for one of the most exciting events in amateur radio!

📅 MEETING DETAILS
Date: Friday, June 13, 2025
Time: 7:00 PM
Location: MAAC – Valparaiso, IN
Topic: "ARRL Field Day Strategy & Setup"
Presented by: The PCARC Field Day Committee

This meeting will give everyone — new hams and seasoned operators alike — a full walkthrough of how Field Day works and how K9PC runs it. If you've never participated before, this is the meeting to attend.

🎙️ WHAT WE'LL COVER
• The purpose and objectives of ARRL Field Day
• Official rules, bands, and operating modes
• How K9PC operates — our club's strategy and station setup
• Logging software overview with a live demonstration
• Station planning, logging networks, emergency power, safety, and community outreach

🚨 NO LICENSE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE
Field Day is open to everyone. You do not need an amateur radio license to attend, operate (under supervision), or just come out and enjoy the event. If you're a new ham, a curious visitor, or someone thinking about getting licensed — you are warmly welcome.

⛺ COMFORT UPDATE
We'll have our new EMM Comm trailer on site with air conditioning running. If the heat is extreme (as it was last year!), we'll also have a station set up inside the air-conditioned room — so no excuses to stay home!

📌 ALSO ON THE AGENDA
We'll give a quick preview of the 13 Colonies Special Event coming up in July — another great opportunity you won't want to miss.

Field Day is always one of the highlights of our club year — operating, learning, fellowship, and emergency preparedness all rolled into one weekend. Let's show up strong and make it our best one yet.

Please mark your calendar and plan to join us. Bring a friend!
