Please remember to vote YES on December 14th!

On December 14, ASD is asking residents to go to the polls in support of a proposal to rebuild and expand the historic Louis L. Redding Middle School, located at 201 New Street in Middletown. THERE WILL BE NO TAX INCREASE RESULTING FROM THIS REFERENDUM. How is that possible? The 70-year old School's plumbing, heating, electric, roof...have outlived their lifespan. The State agrees that a massive upgrade is needed and has agreed to pay more than three-quarters (76%) of the cost. The District has been preparing for this day for over 10 years, and is able to pay its share (24%) using developer impact fees and growth in property taxes associated with new home construction. Before the State will spend the money, the District must pass a December 14, 2021 Referendum to verify that our community supports the project. This is true even though taxes won't increase. We've prepared a short video that explains the importance of the Redding Referendum and our request that residents come out on December 14, 2021 between 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. to vote. We hope you'll watch. VIDEO: Why Do We Need a Referendum? https://youtu.be/pDzKW3bCwWo

Celebrating Our Superhero Elliott! - First grader Elliott Slocum just finished his final round of chemotherapy. The journey hasn't always been easy. So when big-hearted second grade teacher Erin McCullin found out that he loves firefighters, fire trucks and all the sights and sounds associated with a fire station; she decided to give him a special treat. Erin reached out to her brother – Wilmington Firefighter Bobby McCullin – and together they created a very special surprise. – This Saturday (November 20), the Slocum Family, McCullin and many supportive friends from Olive B. Loss Elementary will travel to Station 6 in Wilmington where Elliott will get to experience what it's like to be a real, live firefighter. He'll be presented with a Fire Department shirt, patches from Wilmington's different fire stations, and genuine fire hats. An array of firetrucks from Wilmington Stations will be lined up on display. There will be a tour of the Station and a chance to ring the bell. We'd like to thank Erin McCullin, Lt. Jonathan Osika, Bobby McCullin, and the fantastic first responders in the Wilmington Fire Department who came together to make Elliott's special day possible! http://edne.tw/n757168

NOV 17: HELP US CELEBRATE THE PARAEDUCATORS IN OUR CLASSROOMS & SCHOOLS - Education Support Professionals (Paraeducators) are essential members of our schools and district. They are responsible for assisting teachers in classroom management, organization, the delivery of instruction, and other student-related activities. They provide a positive and nurturing presence in the classroom and help attend to our students' physical, personal, academic, and emotional needs. – They may work closely with teachers on general classroom lessons or activities, or one-on-one with students who have special needs or abilities. While they may not hold an official teaching license, make no mistake, paraeducators are essential to the learning experience, often being called upon to assist with the teaching of new concepts or translate information to help students better understand.
