The Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association has been fighting National Waste Managers (Halle Corp) for decades. Court hearing after court hearing and 25+ years later, MDE is about to approve NWM State Permit to operate a Rubble Landfill. The Board of Appeals granted yet another time extension and FOTPIA will not be appealing this time. It is up to the people to show their disapproval for such a large project in a now developed community area. NWM argument has always been that this rubble landfill has been welcomed and “part of the community”. Nothing can be farther than the truth.
This rubble landfill has only one approved access where the west county elementary school is being built. The other “owned”access is in front of the St John’s Zion Church at the end of Conway road. Conway road is the only access in and only access out. The project will affect all of us from Gambrills, Severn, Crofton and beyond.
Waste allowed will include rubble, asphalt, asbestos tiles, tires and more …
We are wetlands back here … I don’t care how careful of planning, this will affect the environment and residents for years to come. Is it the plan to suck up every ounce of space and land left until it all becomes roads, schools, landfills and development… 💔🌱

Please plan to attend the MDE meeting to show your opposition. THIS is the last phase before state approval. No more discussion. They get it and move to the county for zoning approval.

Latest update on NWM vs FOTPIA … preliminary deliberations with the Board of Appeals appears that they will be voting in NWM favor to grant the time extension. The final decision will be given in writing and at that point we will know for sure. If you can help FOTPIA continue this battle, your support and donations are greatly appreciated. This remains a highly active case as NWM is on course for obtaining their state permit then it will fall into the county for zoning approval.
