Ocqueoc Bearinger Fire Department

Ocqueoc Bearinger Fire Department First responders for Ocqueoc and Bearinger Townships, and assisting throughout Presque Isle County.

The Ocqeoc-Bearinger Fire Department is a group of volunteers, proudly committed to serving the citizens and visitors of Ocqueoc and Bearinger Townships by providing fire and EMS first responder services to the community. In 1980, the Huron Beach Area Fire Department was established. Volunteers had been available previously to fight fires, but until 1980 there had not been an organized fire depart

ment. Through the efforts of The Huron Beach Civic Association, funds were procured and the department's first apparatus, a government surplus 1972 LaFrance fire truck, was purchased. The department has grown much, and has since been renamed the Ocqueoc Bearinger Fire Department. We are supported through donations and with tax monies from both Ocqueoc and Bearinger Townships. Please be advised that there is an air quality alert in effect across northern Michigan. This current air quality alert is caused by dense plumes of wildfire smoke drifting south from Canada and northern Minnesota.

Please see the attached notification for further information for at risk individuals.

Your OBFD responded to a call for a brush fire in the woods on Jarvis Road. With mutual aid assistance from both Onaway and Case Township, we were able to contain the fire to roughly a quarter acre of wooded area. Expended fireworks were found at the scene and were turned over to the DNR.

We are very thankful for the prompt call to 911 by the person who spotted smoke, and for the mutual aid assistance from our neighbor departments. This could have been much worse.

We've had some inquiries regarding the annual garage sale held at the fire hall.

The Huron Beach Civic Association graciously runs the sale each year, with proceeds supporting the fire department. This is the information provided on the HBCA's web page.

- Drop Off: Thursday 7/9 from 3 to 6 pm Friday 7/10 from 9 to noon

- Bake Sale drop off: Saturday by 9:00

- Acceptable items: furniture, clean clothing, toys, books, household items, small appliances, sporting goods, tools & equipment in working order. Not accepted: tvs, computer peripherals, large appliances, overstuffed furniture, tires, exercise equipment

Did you know that your OBFD meets three evenings each month to perform training exercises? This evening we performed an equipment operations refresher on our large tanker.

This is rig 705, a six wheel drive military truck converted for fire fighting. It carries 4,000 gallons, and is equipped with a side sprayer at each of the four corners, a top mounted deck nozzle, and a rear driver side mounted hose reel. She hauls a lot of water to a fire, and can get just about anywhere we need to get to.

At the risk of being overly repetitive, until we get some rain we remain at high risk for fires. DNR restrictions on open burning remain in place for all of northern Michigan.
