Help the Handmaids come to Milwaukee!

We are so grateful for the visit from Sisters from The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus this past Sunday, a new community of young sisters who will be coming to serve in parishes in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee!

After several years of discernment and prayer, the Lord has opened a way for The Handmaids to establish a house in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. They recently purchased the former convent of the Dominican Sisters of the Perpetual Rosary on 68th Street as a future home for their sisters. The building is 30,000 square feet and is ideally located for the sisters to serve in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

They anticipate sending sisters by the fall of 2027, but will need to raise funds for the purchase and renovating of the new convent. Please consider helping us make a home for the sisters - if you are interested in donating or learning more, please follow this link: handmaidsoftheheartofjesus.org/milwaukee

The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus are a Public Association of the Lay Faithful with the intention of becoming a Religious Institute of Diocesan Right. The Handmaids of the Heart of Jesus were founded by Mother Mary Clare and they were established in 2010 and their Motherhouse is located in the Diocese of New Ulm. They currently have 41 sisters with houses in New Ulm, Duluth and St. Paul, MN, as well as Dickinson, North Dakota, and now also in Milwaukee. The Handmaids live in imitation of Mary and serve as spiritual mothers in the diocesan life of the Church. Through their feminine consecrated presence, their sisters provide a stable presence of spiritual motherhood in the local Church in complement to the diocesan priesthood. As diocesan sisters, when possible, they desire to send their sisters to serve in their home dioceses.
They serve the parish family through apostolates such as visiting nursing homes, faith formation for young people, teaching in Catholic schools, preparing people to enter the Church, small groups, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, family ministry, and retreats for women.
