Our October general meeting had two great guests, Ms. Evans, Trustee for Area 2 on the Oceanside Unified School District Board of Education and Mr. Bendz Director of Communications for the USD. Mr. Bendz shared a very interesting and informative power point about all the innovations the district has developed over the past 5 years, from improved facilities to a program where students can take college classes while in high school.
Krista Ross, president of ALNC, shared her new appreciation award, "Joy of Service". She presented one to Ken and Helen Clark for all the amazing work they do for our chapter, included updating and distributing this year's directory. She also presented an award to Cheryl McGlocklin for her work on the Splash, Gala PR and new video that is being produced.
Sondra Peppe and Kathie Hafner shared the progress with our gala, Homecoming, and also were excited to show us that once again Verlaine Ford sent us a beautiful handmade quilt to be auctioned off at the event.

JCPenney in Carlsbad is amazingly supportive of ALNC. Just this past week they presented a check for $8,705.00 from the JCPenney Communities Foundation 2026 Leader Grant to our chapter, they also began a new drive of their "round up program" where we will again be the recipients of the generous donations from the store's customers and employees, and they hosted three shopping trips for local students. On October 6th and 7th our Clothing Children Program, co-chaired by Debbie Virden and Marcia Carucci, arranged for 185 K-12th grade students, from Carlsbad, Oceanside and Vista to each purchase $200.00 worth of school clothing. Over 20 of our volunteers helped the parents, teachers and even caseworkers with selections and purchases. Then on October 8th, 14 youth from the New Haven Program, co-chaired by Meddy Carso and Jan Lopez, were assisted by ALNC members to each spend $300.00 toward school clothing and shoes.
The Clothing Children next event will be held at JCPenney on March 2nd and 3rd.
