My favorite part of having a 3 year old co-worker is her tantruming “I don’t want to go to the farm today! No no no! I’m NOT going to help you harvest!” And then we get there she’s saying “Mama I help you harvest? This is fun! I love being at the farm!” And then screaming that she’s afraid of bugs if one buzzes by her head and then crying because I say she can’t bring her new bug friend home. Farming is exhausting…3 year olds are a whole other word 😂

Torrential downpour and flooding didn’t stop our crew from harvesting and donating 50 pounds of fresh vegetables to Lunch Break today! Thanks to Laura’s partner Jeff and Keith’s son for chipping in to help today! Board members families are often “voluntold” to help out and we appreciate their hard work!

Thank you to JoAnn, co-founder of Allaire Community Farm for meeting with me this morning. She shared the history of what it took to get their organization up and running 15 years ago, including being sued by the neighbors because they didn’t want “at risk youth” to disrupt their peaceful neighborhood 🙄 Thankfully they had great people on their side and were able to overcome that and now employ 50 people (with IDD, PTSD, mental health issues, etc) and over 200 volunteers. A wonderful community farm, a safe place for all. And I’m so happy to hear that JoAnn is no frills - no fancy gala, no elaborate gift basket raffles, etc. Just 2 annual fundraisers that are low key but enjoyable, successful, and bring in necessary funds. Grateful for those who have success now to share their story with me so I can hear how they truly started from next to nothing and made it happen one step at a time. Onward and upward. 💪👩‍🌾

To be donated to Calico Cat tomorrow along with 4 cucumber, 3 zucchini, 2 Black Beauty eggplant, 2 white eggplant, herbs (chives, sage, oregano, thyme, parsley), and 2 bell peppers. It’s not much. I wish it were more. But it’s not nothing. That’s my mantra, it’s not nothing. People will eat because of this. So far, over 130 pounds of fresh produce donated. And more to come once the tomatoes start to really take off. It’s not nothing…
