⛵️🌊Have you seen these curious creatures on the beach recently?

By-the-Wind-Sailors get their name from their characteristic sail which allows them to catch the wind and travel great distances across the world’s oceans, using their stinging tentacles to prey on young fish and other small animals while they travel.

🌬These little guys are at the mercy of the winds & drift along wherever it takes them. They’re often found washed up on beaches by the hundreds or sometimes even thousands, which is perfectly natural & either dry up or are swept back out to sea.

✨They consist of a deep blue disc (float) and clear fin (sail) that attaches across the float. The orientation of the sail along the float determines which way they will travel & they’ll either travel left or right of the wind direction.

😍 Next time you see them take a closer look at these beautiful little creatures but avoid touching them as they may cause skin irritation.
