Mark your calendars- Bays and Bayous is back!

The Bays and Bayous Symposium 2027 is scheduled for January 12-14th, 2027 at the Arthur R. Outlaw Mobile Convention Center in Mobile, Alabama.

The Mobile Bay National Estuary Program and Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant and partners invite you to join them in Mobile, Alabama, to share cutting edge research, network with regional science experts, and get up to date on the latest habitat management and monitoring techniques on the Gulf Coast.

Congrats to the winners of the 2024 Mike deGruy Bays and Bayous Symposium Student Presentation Awards! 🌎✨

📣 Oral Presentation Winners

🥇 First Place: Hailee Nigro (USM School of Ocean Science and Engineering) – Temperature-Sensitivity of Juvenile Blue Crab Intermolt Period and Growth-Per-Molt.

🥈 Second Place: Cynthia Lupton (Mississippi State University Coastal Research and Extension Center) – Effect of Sediment Grain Size and Oyster Presence on Oyster Drill Abundance.

🥉 Third Place: Jordan Heiman (The University of Mississippi - Ole Miss) – Bacterial Communities of Beaches along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

📣 Poster Presentation Winners

🥇 First Place: Catherine Dodd (The University of South Alabama) – Xanthum Gum Addition to Improve the Efficacy of Recycled Glass Sand Substrate in Coastal Restoration.

🥈 Second Place: Rejane Paulino (Mississippi State University) – Evaluating PACE Spectral Consistency in the Coastal Waters of Mississippi.

🥉 Third Place: Daniel Servos (The University of South Alabama) – A Novel Approach for Nitrate Removal and Recovery from Wastewater Using Pseudomonas Nitrate Binding Proteins.

👏 Thank you to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab Foundation for sponsoring the awards and to the 51 judges who evaluated 98 presentations at the Mississippi Coast Convention Center in Biloxi.
