Embrace Abilities

Embrace Abilities Empower. Advocate. Connect. https://linktr.ee/embraceabilitiesms We’re here to celebrate differences and ensure every family feels a true sense of belonging.

Established in February 2024, we’re a 501(c)(3) nonprofit building an inclusive community for individuals (3–21) with different abilities and their families on the MS Gulf Coast. Embrace Abilities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, founded by Bridgett Lee in 2024. Inspired by lived experience, our mission is to create a welcoming, inclusive community where children, teen

s, and young adults with different abilities—and their families—can thrive. We proudly serve families navigating a wide range of disabilities, including genetic disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, neurodiversity (like autism and ADHD), and rare conditions. Our vision is a future where every child is valued, respected, and empowered—no matter their diagnosis or background.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐞 𝐃𝐨:
• Host monthly inclusive events, sensory-friendly activities, and social meetups
• Offer programs like Play & Connect meetups, Coffee with Caregivers, and Sibshops, with a focus on whole family support
• Provide caregiver resources, peer support, and advocacy for families navigating all types of disabilities—ensuring everyone feels seen, supported, and included.
• Partner with local clinics and professionals to expand access to therapy, education, and community connections

𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐖𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞:
• Children and young adults (ages 3–21) with a wide variety of abilities—including but not limited to autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, Fragile X, cerebral palsy, rare genetic conditions, and more—plus their families, caregivers, and allies across the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡:
• All participants, regardless of age, must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at events for safety and support
• We strive to accommodate allergies, accessibility, and communication needs—just let us know during registration
• For those aging out of our youth programs, we offer guidance and referrals to community resources like the DREAM program

At Embrace Abilities, we believe diversity, acceptance, and empathy make our community stronger. Join us as we work together to build a more inclusive world for everyone!

We could use a few extra helping hands for our Inclusive Art Social on June 13 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Having volunteers there helps us keep the morning smooth and fun for every family.

Duties would include:

🖌️ Assisting participants with art activities

😊 Encourage social interaction and engagement

💙 Help keep the space positive and welcoming for kids and young adults with different abilities and their families

No art experience required. If you are kind, patient, and willing to jump in where needed, we would love to have you.

Less than 24 hours after opening registration, our Inclusive Art Social is officially full. Thank y’all so much for the quick response and for the love for Mrs. West

At this point, we are opening a waitlist in case spots become available due to cancellations. If you already registered and later realize you cannot make it, please message us as soon as you can so we can offer that spot to another child.

Waitlist link is in the comments. If a spot opens up, we will contact families in the order responses are received.

Y’all were not playing about Mrs. West! Even with registration opening later than usual, our Inclusive Art Social is almost full already.

To make sure everyone has a good experience, we are capping registration at 30 children. Right now we have 𝟐 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐞𝐟𝐭.

We have heard about Mrs. West’s impact for years and the way she helps kids tap into their creativity and feel proud of what they make, so we are truly excited to do this with your families.

Registration link is in the comments. If you register and later realize you cannot make it, please message us as soon as you can so we can offer that spot to another child. If we reach capacity, we will start a waitlist and contact families if a spot opens up.

We are later than usual posting this, so forgive us. We had to finalize a few details. We’re excited to team up with the fabulous Amber Lindsey West for an Inclusive Art Social.

So many of our kids have had Mrs. West as their art teacher at school, and she is the kind of teacher they remember. She makes creativity feel fun, doable, and worth being proud of. Families still speak so highly of her, which makes us even more excited to collaborate with her for this event.

This event is for kids and young adults ages 3 to 21 with different abilities and their families. No experience needed. Come as you are, create at your own pace, and take home what you make. We will have a few different art options to choose from.

Registration link will be in the comments as well and will be open for 7 days. If your child needs a specific accommodation, message us anytime and we will do our best to make it work.

A local organization reached out because they wanted their event to be more inclusive, and that is the kind of call we love getting. We jumped at the opportunity, showed up, and got to work setting up a sensory space.

Spaces like this matter because they give kids and families a place to regulate, take a break, and come back when they are ready. Maryjo explains more in this video.

If you are planning an event and want to talk through inclusion and sensory supports, message us. We are always glad to help where we can.

Big thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday for School’s Out for the Summer. Whether you came to the morning meetup or the afternoon meetup, we’re glad you were there.

Movies were on, pizza was out, and the kids had a great time exploring the music instruments and hanging out in a space made for them.

Next meetup is June 13th. Registration and details coming soon.

We couldn’t let the day end without wishing Maryjo Bullock a very Happy Birthday.

Maryjo, thank you for the way you show up with real care and a steady presence. You make space for people to be honest, you listen without trying to fix everything, and you remind us that support can be both practical and human. We’re grateful to have you on the Embrace Abilities board, and even more grateful to call you our friend.

Hope you’re wrapping up your birthday feeling loved and truly appreciated. 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💜
