The Baleine Brides Recognition Project
Randall Ladnier challenged all of us when he wrote in his book:
The Brides of La Baleine
88 French women and girls arrived at Ship Island on January 8th, 1721. Unknown and unappreciated for 266 years, the time has come for these women to receive the recognition and gratitude owed them by historians and their descendants.
Indeed, the time has come.
As our first endeavor to recognize the Brides, a group of descendants, genealogist and historians have partnered together with the Ocean Springs Genealogical Society, Biloxi Visitor Center and MS Coast National Heritage Area to place a plaque in Biloxi and host an unveiling event to celebrate their 300th Year Anniversary of their arriving in Biloxi.
More information will be coming regarding the project event and scheduling.
