The Fourth of July is one of the busiest weekends of the year on the Peninsula. Thousands of people come to enjoy these beaches, and unfortunately a tremendous amount of trash comes with them. For the past 25 years, the GrassRoots Garbage Gang has helped meet that reality with a simple idea: hand people a trash bag and invite them to help care for the place they're visiting.
There are still lots of volunteer shifts available on July 4th. Most are only two hours long and involve greeting beachgoers, handing out bags & helping keep our coastline beautiful. It seems fitting that a holiday centered around freedom also asks us to consider our responsibilities to one another and the places we share.
If you'd like to volunteer, please reach out to GrassRoots Garbage Gang π«ΆπΌβ¨οΈ
And don't forget that following the July 5th cleanup, we'll be hosting a Soup & Sourdough Social here at DuneSide for everyone who helped care for the beach.
