🍎📚 The Ride to School Is More Than Just a Ride 🚗

Back-to-school season means busy mornings, packed schedules, and plenty of time in the car. For some parents, that 20–30 minute ride to school may be one of the few uninterrupted opportunities you have with your kids each day.

Use it.

Talk with them about alcohol, to***co, va**ng, and ma*****na. Ask what they’re seeing and hearing from friends or on social media. Make sure they understand the risks—and, just as importantly, make sure they know where you stand.

They may stare out the window. They may have their headphones on. You might even get an eye roll or two. But don’t mistake that for not listening.

Your kids hear you. Your expectations matter. Your conversations can make a difference.

You don’t need a perfect speech or a formal “sit-down.” Prevention can start with a simple conversation on the way to school.

This school year, make those minutes count. Keep talking. Keep listening. Keep the conversation going.

"Heed the speed" - is wise advice indeed.

Holy smokes! And why are some people still arguing AGAINST helmets?? 😮

No excuses.

Make the holiday weekend about the ride, not a roadside stop. Ride sober and make it home safely. Ride Sober or Get Pulled Over.

The Maryland State Police commends Master Troopers J. Wilkins and W. Shelter, along with Trooper First Classes K. Dean and B. Pilchard, for their exemplary actions in stopping a dangerous driver and protecting the lives of others on the road.

We especially recognize TFC Dean for his selfless decision and quick thinking to maneuver his patrol vehicle directly into the driver’s path, taking decisive action to prevent further danger.

The actions of these four troopers demonstrate courage, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the people they serve.

They exemplify the very best of Maryland’s Finest.
_____

: Maryland State Police arrested and charged a Cambridge man on Saturday night after he drove the wrong way on U.S. Route 13 for several miles before colliding with a Maryland State Police patrol vehicle.

The driver of a Ford F-250, identified as Joshua Jorette, 36, of Cambridge, Maryland, was arrested on the scene. He is charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and other related charges. He is being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. yesterday, the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack received multiple reports of a Ford pickup truck traveling north in the southbound lanes of the Salisbury Bypass (U.S. Route 13). A trooper near the Johnson Road overpass located the vehicle and attempted to intercept it, but the pickup truck continued northbound and nearly struck his patrol vehicle. The trooper continued to follow the pickup truck and attempted to make another traffic stop. The vehicle then continued to flee north.

A second trooper responding to the incident observed multiple stationary vehicles and their occupants on the shoulder just north of the pickup truck’s location in the area of U.S. Route 13 at Route 50. Recognizing the extreme danger posed to the motorists and pedestrians behind him, the second trooper maneuvered his patrol vehicle directly in the path of the pickup truck driver in another attempt to stop the vehicle. Jorette attempted to maneuver around the patrol vehicle, but the trooper was able to absorb the impact. The crash caused the Ford to spin and strike a Ford Expedition before becoming inoperable.

Oh my goodness. 😮👀 This is not how to build a culture of mutual safety and respect for one another. Why can't all types of road users be accepting of each other?

From "get on the sidewalk" to "buy a car" - we've heard it all. Here are eight things all cyclists are sick of hearing from rude motorists.

Sleepiness can creep up silently and stealthily, so we don't always spot it early enough. - always stay in tune with how you are feeling. 🙌

Don’t let a long weekend turn into a dangerous drive home.

Avoid drowsy driving. Get plenty of rest before you leave, take breaks along the way, and if you become too tired to drive, stop and rest.

If you’re too tired to drive, you’re too tired to drive safely.
